Title: A3000 ChipRAM
Post by: locutus on October 06, 2003, 06:05:29 PM
the ChipRAM chips in the A500, are those compatible with the ones you can socket in the A3000 ? if so i could just desolder the chips from 2 A500's and plug them in the A3000 :-) (having it show up 2 Megs just feels soooo much nicer, and that way i can frame up the A500 boards without guilt)

I think the packaging is similar, but I'd asume the speeds would be off.

But, if your first meg of fast ram is populated with DIPS then you can swap those over.  AFAIK, this was the base configuration on the A3000 (1M CHIP/1M FAST via DIPS), at least that's how mine came.

Nope, she does have 4MB of ZIP's, but no FastRAM DIP's

Wow, that's odd.  Did you buy the computer new?  Mine had the 1/1 configuration which I switched to 2/8 soon after.  Do you have the chip numbers off of the A500 RAM?  If so, it's possible to look up and see if they are the correct speed, etc.

Oh, I maybe thinking of the 030/25MHz coming with the 2M chip option. If yours is a 16MHz then that could be the difference.  Anyway, post up those numbers and we'll see.
