733MHz to 1.1GHz, 1MB of (improved?) L2 cache, 200 MHz FSB, 0.13 micron, less than 8W at 1GHz. Not bad! :-)

Indeed, and Apple will probably use them as such as the article suggested.
The MPC 7447 (http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MPC7447&nodeId=03C1TR046708718653) (The Pegasos G4) is not bad either, quite cool with its 10W @ 1GHz. That too is 0.13 micron, it has smaller L2 cache (nevertheless twice as big as most of the other G4's), and it has Altivitec.
But most important of all: We don't need to wait for Q1-Q2 2004 for its arrival in end user products! :-)

I agree, apple will use them, and do so at a price point that is relatively competitive, certainly more competitive than a niche market player could price them.
So all we need is the os ported....

I agree completely, while the 970 might be the "Pentium-killer" type, we really need more low-cost, decent-performance PPCs.

Your figures are not correct. 7447@1GHz is 15.8W
only 5.8W more... but that's more than 50%, so significant even if I am splitting hairs!

If you go onto read the manual it contradicts what the website says. Strange but true.
Judging by the activities at work, I'd suggest the 15 Watt figure is more representative of the current models. Perhaps the 10W is with reference to the lower power version, which to date, hasn't materialised.
