For this market that is mind blowing prices! :-o
-
@Red
Dunno, but I would really advise anybody to atleast spend those extra 50$
to get an April1-Peg instead of a Betatester.
-
Very, very competitive pricing.
-
Hey TARBOS! The Betatester boards are not perfect. Everyone knows that AND they are NOT new (all these boards have been used for at least a month). BUT, for a extra development machine or for certain tasks the Betatester board IS a GOOD deal...:-D
So, support your Pegasos Resellers and buy one!

What is the April difference between April 1&2?
Are betatester and April 1 boards any good?
-
Personally, I think the betatester boards should be given free to prominent Amiga developers to get them on the MOS side, and to bring much-needed software. It wouldn't be a total loss, since undoubtedly they'd love the Pegasos and maybe decide to upgrade later, selling even more Pegasos boards.
In fact, I hear this has happened before to the authors of certain email and fractal programs... ;-)
-
you have to be a member of the Phoenix club to
buy these ? can I buy a blowout product ?
-
>Are betatester and April 1 boards any good?
I wouldn't use a Betatester board as your main
Pegasos computer because it has no fix for certain
Articia bugs. April1 boards however have fixed the
main issues of the Articia which makes the board
usable for end users.
However the price difference between April1 and the
Phoenix Offer (with April2) is so small I would advice
an "enduser" to sign up for the Phoenix offer.
-
H KennyR, good idea!
We just gave ten to PHOENIX! (http://www.phinixi.com)
:-)

P.S. These are different than the DemoScene complete machines that will be built the Pegasos I April 2 board.

I suppose so, but i'm a bit short of cash as I have also returned from my hols and bought an A1:-)

It would be nice if someone in the U S A had them for sale. Dont want to waste money on shipping !!!!

That's what I call competition in a healthy market. Well done Mr Buck and Ms Valesco. Hopefully Eyetech and Elbox will follow suite soon!
All you Amigans out there, yes you, moaning about the high prices and begging us to come up with reasons why you should shell out for an 'expensive' Peg.... now that bbrv has removed this hurdle, what are you going to do? Find another excuse and starting whinging again? This is what you've been waiting for people! Personally, I don't mind a second hand board, these things last for ages if handled properly!
Now, an Amiga computer will cost only marginally more then a PC, and you know the Pegasos is quality stuff! If prices keep to this sane level, and this is not a freak event, we can REALLY look forward to the rebirth of the Amiga! In my opinion, this is a breath of fresh air for the Amiga market! More so if the Peg II will also be priced competitvly!
Again, I wish you every success guys (and gals) at Genesis you deserve it!
-
I don't know HOW badly behaving the non-april boards are.. but I am sure they can't be totally unusable and can be used for developing older software (ImageFX, Magellan and such, even lesser hits..) that could sell copies when the platform grows.
Plus, does the bugs occure in Linux, or in MOS, or in both? Is there a way round it? Has such software patch been made?
All in all for a developer wanting to support a new platform it may not be that bad offer at all.
-
I see here a good chance to those people who have said that there are no bugs in Articia.. If there are no bugs in it, it'll be as good as those other boards with 100euros higher pricetag..
-
Joanna...have to hand it to you!
You always have a way to say things!
:-D

Here's the deal on the TEN free pre-April II boards I thus far have acquired:
I am taking project submissions, along with short bio/CV of anyone who would be working on these projects. I will review the project proposals and if I am unsure of standing will share that info with a few other people in Phoenix. The projects that fill gaps or look interesting will be chosen. They don't need to be so ambitious that they might set the word afire, nor need they be ones that will immediately bear fruit. What I am looking for are people who LIKE to develop, and will keep doing it!
No, you don't have to be a god of marketing or coding - you may not even have much of a track record. But you should want to progress. Developers are a precious resource in the old 'hood.
Don't be shy, send those project proposals in, pholks - we WANT to see you succeed!

heh, why havent i ever heard of phoenix ? , is that phoenix france ?
anyway push-entertainment needs devboards aswell,
that is...if they want our games to work on pegasos (which they doesnt atm)
games for Amiga 68k , amigaone , gba and Ps2.
(the 68k version wont be good enough emulated so thats not an option for mos)
cheers
pps:was just an suggestion

Hi zacman,
I am not looking for endusers (for the SUMMER OFFER or any other promo. I am looking for what Phoenix has been operating under for years: an expanded definition of DEVELOPER.
We want people who can work with others when required, have something substantial to contribute to the growth of the Pegasos platform whether through coding, marketing, reselling, trade show organizing and support, print or web publishing, people to enter our upcoming talent pools for graphics, music or audio editing, translation and documentation, etc.
Some people see this as a way to get a cheap or even a free board but up to now the response to Pegasos boards being offered to seed development of the various categories has been incredibly positive, with little sign of abuse.
It's good to build - the true end users will benefit! {Not to forget the SuperBundle either - codename PhuperBundle ; }

This is a great offer!
Genesi does it again! :-D

Hey BBRV.
The bug's in the Betatester blowout boards. Can i work around them?
Meaning, can i disable the function/feature that have the bug (eg. disable DMA) and still have a stable (no visible bugs) board for eg. development?
Also, does it come with all the software that the April2 boards does?
And will i be able to upgrade to G4 with this board?
Hope you can answer it all :-)
@JoannaK
You know perfectly fine, that the currently used Artica on the "other than pegasos" boards, is of a newer revision, than the one used on any of the Pegasos1 boards.
-
What exactly in/with MorphOS is crashing without the April chip thinghy? Could one buy a Pegasos board without it and use it as an enduser? (such as playing games, do graphics and code small applications?)
-
Sorry Joanna, only because the Pegasos boards needs the April2 to fix some/any/many bugs you cannot proof, that these are bugs in the Articia.
Tell me all the bugs and how to reproduce them with my AmigaOne (and no, not only the DMA bug) and I will believe about the Articia bugs.
But as you do not seem to know anything more then most of us don't talk about bugs you know nothing about.
Ciao, Alfred
