Genesi's new PegasosPPC.com (http://www.pegasosppc.com) site is now online. It's worth stopping by just to see what a well designed site looks like.
-
Nice.
I wonder if there will be an http://www.amigappc.com ?
Something tells me there won't.
-
@mdmc
I know the tendency is to say whatever comes to mind here, but please try to stay on topic. It sounds almost like no one can make a simple "looks nice" comment without "slamming" the "other side".
While not directly intended to you, I would really like to work to change that.
-
Nice site, but I already saw the preview. ;-) Very professional.
Let me try to anticipate the reaction of a troll before one actually posts. It might go like:
teh site is crap it doest even work on ie,i am loading it on my pc and it just loks like a amatur site just buy an amigaone coz they are the ebst and mos suxxx!!!!
Name that troll. :-D
-
A pretty design à la "Apple.com". The html code looks clean too.
From the site:
"...Anytime, Anywhere, Anyone."
Have I seen this before?
-
I agree site is nice desighn .
-
Looks very good indeed.
@SimoAmi yes it has an apple feel, but i think its a tad better than apple's site.
But i have only looked at the front page so fare.
-
>"...Anytime, Anywhere, Anyone."
Well "AAA" has a long tradition ;-)
-
Hey, that must be amigamad you're aiming at!!!
Did I win a cookie??? If not, why did I bother participating? Oh yeah, that's right. He had that one coming ;-)
Anyway, I have two things to say about the site:
1: Nice, looks _excactly_ like an old version of apple.com ;-)
2: When you go to www.pegasosppc.com you expect the "Location: " bar in your browser to say www.pegasosppc.com, NOT http://64.246.37.205/. Whether or not the title bar says PegasosPPC.com really isn't all that important. It could for all I care say something _useful_ ;-)
9 out of 10 for style, 2 out of 10 for configuring web browser.
Also, is it true you can use FFS2 on MorphOS? Or is this like the "supports dual G5" "advertising" that in no way should be called a "lie" because a "lie" can only come from Amiga Inc?
Ooooh, I'm soooo gonna be moderated for that one.
-
I agree site is nice desighn but there is nothing that would convince me to buy one.
How about cheap, multiple OS support, amiga compatible, and available now?
-
>It could for all I care say something _useful_
DNS Server problem.
>Also, is it true you can use FFS2 on MorphOS?
Ehm, it's one of the built-in filesystems. Maybe you
should have been staying at the MOS presentation ;-)
>Or is this like the "supports dual G5"
Dual G5? What are you speaking about?
-
@mdmc

Sorry Wayne.
I really hope there will be an amigappc.com site though. Or something similar to show to people who aren't already "Part of the community", what Amiga is about.
This pegasosppc site will be a big PR boost for Genesi in the "Real World".
-
@olegil
9 out of 10 for style, 2 out of 10 for configuring web browser.
Can't help wondering if the news and URL didn't "escape" before it should have done. It looks suspiciously like the URL still points to the development server rather than the public one, or maybe the news just leaked before server configuration was completed.
But yes, I do agree that little detail should be remedied ASAP, as it detracts from the overall effect.
-
Using an ip address instead of a domain name has only one advantage:
>> loading speed.
In order for your browser to load the content of a web page, the site's url has to be resolved. This might take from hundreds of milliseconds to few seconds. Using an IP will simply skip the reverse lookup operation and load the site content immediately.
On the other hand, this trick is search engine and user unfriendly. Your ranking in search engines is affected as these recommend using words of a significance in a url string.

Hmm, seems I was a bit quick there. However, dual G4 and single G5 was used in the advertising:
"Over here we have the CPU slot. You can put a board inside here, with a G3, a
G4, or a G5 on it, and there can be a maximum of 2 CPUs on the board. Over here
we have the memory connections, the IDE connector, the AGP connector, and the
PCI slots. Over here is the FireWire connector for internal usage, and on the
backside of the machine we see the two FireWire connectors for external usage."
From a certain film on aminet... So far I've seen single G3 boards, no more, no less. For the AmigaOne I've seen single G3 and G4 boards, and a dual G4 which is not yet shipping to end users.
"There's an IBM PPC 750 on it. And this is a G3 CPU, so it's one
of the lowest models of the Pegasos currently available with this card inside.
But soon we will have a double G4 in it."
Oh yes, you certainly will. Sorry bout that, but I just had to.
Anyway, this movie was in fact really funny, because noone had thought to remove the 3 minutes of debug in the OF when making a 5 minute film. So you have 1 minute of yada yada yada, then 3 minutes of nothing, then 1 minute of opening windows before end credits. Gee, that was professional.
Again, sorry. But one might see a tendency to market things a weeeee bit early from a certain company ;-)
And about staying for a MOS presentation: Nah, been too busy to worry about you guys. You can take care of yourselves.
-
>So far I've seen single G3 boards, no more, no less
You haven't been at WOASE then.
>Anyway, this movie was in fact really funny,

Yeah, almost as professional as presenting a text
based ExecSG kernel for two days at WOASE 2002 :)
But hey, why argueing. Every company makes the
best out of it. The next step will be AmiWest 2002.
Will be very interesting indeed.

A pretty design à la "Apple.com". The html code looks clean too.
Just like www.maroctour.com (http://www.maroctour.com ) :-D
Thanks for all the nice comments, by the way.

It's worth stopping by just to see what a well designed site looks like.
If it was well-designed, I wouldn't have had to cancel download in Mozilla after 80 seconds.
-
Upload some pictures which actually show a pegasos in a tower/desktop instead of boring pictures of boards with a white background.
Very professional looking site.
-
@anarchic_teapot
If it was well-designed, I wouldn't have had to cancel download in Mozilla after 80 seconds.
Methinks this may be a problem not related to the site, as it works just fine in Mozilla here.
-
I agree site is nice desighn but there is nothing that would convince me to buy one.
Those who enjoy the Pegasos and MorphOS might wonder whether to be shocked, relieved, or cheerful...perhaps alternating though that spectrum like a copper toy ; }...
Meanwhile: Congrats, Genesi web team! Great job! : }

strange, FAQ explaines the April chip as expanding the capabilities of the Mai Articia S chipset, I thought it fixed serious bugs ?

Call it professional diplomacy. You don't post negative comments about other companies on your web site. Ergo, "fixes serious bugs" becomes "expanding the capabilities". I commend the astuteness of the content editor for this policy.
(and yes, I too see how this contrasts to the unofficial web forum posts, but I've expressed my opinion on those elsewhere and see no need to do so again)
-
Looks great here on Moz.
It does look like Apple.com a bit, but people say that as if that is a bad thing!
Very nice indeed :-)
-
Looks nice!
Makes me wanna buy one (seriously)
-
is it true you can use FFS2 on MorphOS?
Yes.
-
Nice site.
Too bad they don't make or sell them anymore.
AmigaGuy
-
Amigaguy: According rumous, some resellers may have couple systems left so if you wanto to have one of these Pegasos-1.s you'll need to ask around.
But that site ain't made for these now sold systems.. it's for those that are soon to come (well.. I can't tell date, but like 3-4months Is what I have heard). There are no pictures of that new motherboard, but If I have understood correctly it should be same size and have at least same features as this now sold. (to be a bit better actually due enchanced technology).
Anyhow.. Nice looking site tha thas enough information for some reading.
-
Too bad they don't make or sell them anymore.
Try KDH (http://www.kdh-amiga-shop.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=23_42_83&osCsid=89f16b7639e585824f723a72bdb9e24d) or Vesalia (http://www.vesalia.de/?V02b0f1553544411795a5a525209514e01101f0954414752050140090a1e31115579633a223c6373744e03263f2a2a7661053967606122687c2e3475551). At least one of both dealers should still have a few boards left.

@mdma
I wonder if there will be an http://www.amigappc.com ?
Merlancia already has that address..
-
BTW ...
Very nice looking site.
Congrats to the web designer :-) .
-
More than one webmaster/developer had their hand in the site, and I commend them. Excellent work guys.
-

Call me stupid, but I thought that it's look pretty much the same, but with a slightly different PCB layout and different chips, oh and some differences to the ports.
Besides I've never understood why people get so worked up over how a motherboard looks. Maybe I'm just not Geek enough :-)

Exactly my first reaction. It is a very nice website. I immediately thought, it looks like Apple's site. Very clean looking.
-
Aye, it looks very nice indeed.
(XHTML geek mode kicks in)
The HTML looks pretty clean too, however...
Forgetting those in this day and age... ;-)
-
Why are there people looking at the html code? Do you look at the binary in an mp3? ;-)
-
@olegil
In case you collect these....
The last words before aachen.
"We can compensate Allan Redhouse through his success (something he is clearly about to loose with YDL Teron pricing). Hyperion too. Oh yes, you want to buy a G4 A1? Wake up people! Read the disclaimers on the YDL site. Do you understand what needs to happen before this will? There is a Pegasos G4 now."
And be aware the similar collection of AInc wordings can not be beaten in few years, no matter what Genesi does... and it's sad...
-
It's worth stopping by just to see what a well designed site looks like.
;-) The site is well done. But then, as a frequent visitor to this site (http://www.amiga.org), I already know what a well designed site looks like.
-
Why are there people looking at the html code? Do you look at the binary in an mp3? ;-)
Nope, but i'm a bit of a css/xhtml/accessibility geek.
I frequently browse with stylesheets and images turned off (i'm on a shared dial-up connection at work and its dog slow) and you'd be amazed just how many sites break completely the moment I do this. Why?
No alt or title tags. Simple as that.
Every image should have an alt tag, even if its just a simple alt="" for spacer gifs (another hateful way of doing page layout but thats another story altogether ;-) )
