Title: Ancient Toys - a new site about Amiga games
Post by: neongod on April 28, 2003, 03:08:35 PM
I have launched my site about Amiga games and music. You can find many games in ADF format, utils for emulation (many platforms), Amiga game and demo music in mod format, amiga wallpapers, hardware gallery, discussion forum, etc.
I hope you will enjoy :)

the url is:

I thought it was considered bad form to post links to sites hosting copyrighted adf files?

The website is very slow. Watching those wallpapers takes ages. AmigaWorld.org would love to host big pictures if the webmaster wants that.

Nice :-)

Ps: CD32 has akiko as graphic chipset
PPS:A1200 can have 128Mb ram on an accelerator card not max 8Mb
PPPS: you can use 3.9 on a1200 an maybe OS4 (with a blizzarppc)

as I know, it has AGA + Akiko added for faster rendering and for videocd's... maybe I wrong..

yes 128mb, but the original EC020 can only adress 8mb of fast ram... I not mentioned the accelerator cards... If I would mention, than I have to do it at A4000, where also Cyberstorm ppc-s can handle a huge amount of ram, etc...

okok.. os3.9 and os4.. but when the machine was released there were no os3.9 :)

the infos is about the release time of the computers, not about the future updates. But I'm planning to add many of turbocard and expansion infos too..

ALL of them, unless you have permission from the various companies this site is technicly illegal of course that doesnt stop sites like this existing and personaly such sites can be a great archive of old stuff and you are unlikely to get the companies complianing. Just watch out for the IDSA who like to enforce such things.

ok.. I wish you all the best.. but the thing with 020 and 8mb RAM aint right. You can buy Blizzard1220, wich is 20mhz 020 cpu on it. And that board can have 32mb FAST RAM. And how do you add 8mb RAM on Amiga 1200 mainboard at all without a turbo board? :)

Many of old games have the status of "abandonware" which means, that the copyrighter does not care about his game any more. These games are freely shareable. Thats why there are so many abandonware pages over the net (there are PC abandonware pages too). Not all of the games are "illegal". Maybe there are some.. If you find exatly a game which is not abandonware, but copyrighted, write me and I will remove it from the site.

You can add Fast Ram, with Commodore (and other) Memory Cards, where you can add max 8Mb of Ram. It does not contains anything else, only a memory extension. No cpu, no scsi, no maprom, nothing. only a memory module.
I still have one of these, my card is called RCA 120.
Its like the A500's memory extension.

Nope, you are right. The CD32 does use AGA and has Akiko as the chip to perform hardware Chunky-to-Planar conversion.

Yes you are wrong. Akiko has nothing to do with vcd playback.

CD32 FMV (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/fmv.html) -module is used for mpeg vcd playback.

You're wrong.

A) Stock A1200 has a 68EC020 cpu that can only address 24bit address space. This means total 16MB, but due to amiga memorymap structure, max 8MB is possible thru the expansion slot, unless if you have a CPU on the card as well.

B) Blizzard 1220 has a 68EC020 chip on it, too. So it can't have 32MB. In fact, the card is documented to take max 4MB (probably to avoid clashing with PCMCIA memory space).

C) There were dozens (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/ramex.html) of memory only expansions built for A1200, most of them had a real time clock too (since it's missing on stock A1200). These cards take maximum 4 or 8 MB (8MB disables the PCMCIA slot though). Some cards had a provision for 68881/68882 FPU, too. These cards were quickly replaced by 68030 turbo cards.

The A1200 memory structure can address 9MB (11 counting the chip memory), 1 MB being the infamous Ranger memory. I remember a card (MBX 1200?) having 9 megs on board.

If we start nitpicking:

Ranger memory area can in theory address 1.75 MB. So maxed up expansion card could add 9.75 MB :-)

Abandonware is not a true legal term. AFAIR, copyright lasts for 99 years before expiring, therefore spreading even old games is technically illegal.

I thought I'd warn you because if someone takes a dislike to you all they have to do is send a single mail to your ISP and they'll delete your page and cancel your account.
