Title: Madwizards have won the Equinoxe demo compo
Post by: Frodon on March 24, 2003, 04:22:52 PM
The demo "Own love balance" made by Madwizards have won the demo compo competition at the Equinoxe Party this Week End! This demo is running on MorphOS and was presented on a Pegasos at the Equinoxe Party.

You can download the demo on the ftp.scene.org (http://ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/parties/2003/equinoxe03/demo/madwizards-own_love_balance.zip) site.

Sounds cool...    Mad wizards are no doubt, one of the best Amiga demo groups.   I gotta see this production.

Do anyone know if there is a DivX/Avi clip out yet?

Would be nice to see this, I'm doubting it's worth a pegy just to view it :-)

You never know :) For me, upgrading my amiga has always been because i couldn't see this or that demo.

I hated the messages like: "you need an 68030 to run this demo..." or "no fpu was detected...config failed"...

I bought my 68030 for demos, my 68060 and extra ram. The demoscene is also the reason why i don't want to install mediator or gfx card.

I even thought about buying PPC board for watching demos.

Ofcourse, one demo is not enough but if the demoscene takes off...

look here.. (http://ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/parties/2003/equinoxe03/demo/madwizards-own_love_balance.diz)

"Additional remarks : This is a Pegasos PPC demo,
           it won't run under Windows."

It runs on an Amiga compatible = Pegasos! :-D

explain to me how a Pegasos is 'Amiga compatible'.  There is no AmigaOS for it so let me guess emulation is defining amiganess?  Im sick of that BS it doesnt stand up.

I'm a loser then. I care little about what defines Amiga for others, I (and I think all of us) have my own motives. For me it was something outside the MS World (except for the famous mistake with AmigaBasic). Guess what Amiga is interested in now... Things do change. One have to rethink his philosophy from time to time. May we leave Peg/MOS flaming outside? Both Red/Blue flaming is pretty tiring...

BTW, checked the demo, very nice. Congratulations.

No, but that fact it has such included capability seems to be the only reason some idiots are claiming that MorphOS is somehow an amiga.

createcoms :

it's not an "included emulation capacity" as you say : MOS uses an amigaOS compatible API rewritten from scratch and enhanced. So if you prefer the current ABOX is a rewritten improved AmigaOS (but is not amigaOS)...

The only emulator you will find is the 68k emulator.

Urm.... few things

1. These guys code for numerous platforms so them writing one for MOS is hardly news for these guys, they code some of the best Amiga, PC demos too.

2. It's not "Amiga compatible" demo unless it runs on an Amiga, if it runs on MOS only, here is a bit of a comprehension lesson, its a MOS demo, nothing Amiga-related to it.

3. No reason these guys wont produce an AmigaOS4 version of this and other new demos when it is out. (Unless Genesi have done a Microsoft and bought/paid them out so they only 'exclusively' support one platform)

4. Using demos or whatever, with the small handful of apps/titles on offer to grab users from the Amiga is a decent business idea, but any semi-intelligent person knows that this is the same kinda tripe Microsoft relies on for the XBox using its few and far between exclusive/original titles to try and lure people over to their platform. So using reasons quoted here such as to buy a Peggy over a bloody demo!!!! is insulting the intelligence of people here. A demo can be great, but at the end of the day, once it gets DivX'd, anyone who had any need to get a Peggy just for it, well, the need no longer is there! ;)
Title: Re: Madwizards have won the Equinoxe demo compo
Post by: mahen on March 26, 2003, 08:13:47 AM
1. It's the first MorphOS demo, so worth mentioning :)

2. MOS is amiga-compatible/like, this demo is for morphOS. MOS is part of the amiga world / community. We didn't say the demo itself is amiga compatible. (but it works on an amiga with morphOS)

3. I guess they could do that

4. This is just to show that MOS is being chosen by more and more people as demos / games / apps are being developed for it. Of course AOS4 version of those software wouldn't be a problem I think.

There's no reason why this kind of news would annoy people :) Remember : new things being developed for Pegasos mean new things which could be easily adapted for A1.

Well said. I totally agree with this. :-)

Now let's hope that these two platforms will not differ too much from each other, if you read some of the answers of Fleecy, Amiga Inc. are already thinking about followup solutions without even bringing out their initial product, i.e. OS4?!
(see amigaworld.net and the second set of answers of Fleecy for details. At least I was surprised reading these kind of answers of Fleecy.)

Back to subject.
I tried this demo. I have to say it's nice.
I see this as a start of some excellent stuff we'll see in the future of demo's :-) (I still remember demo's like Ilyad)

This is great news!
I'm hoping for a big scene acceptance of the new Amigas. I think that if these machines are going to get new users and buyers (not just fanatics like us), the demo scene is the right place to start looking!

Just one final question:  when are we changing domain names?  Im guessing a few weeks time then we shall be morphos.org ?

The 'interest' argument has been stretched too far...

MorphOS is a AmigaOS clone made/developed by die hard Amiga users, it is not an Amiga and neither is OS4 but a Operating System,

Surely people must see the difference between the Operating system and hardware.

Also is there any need for people to resort to personal attacks.
Title: Re: Madwizards have won the Equinoxe demo compo
Post by: System on March 27, 2003, 12:18:35 AM
Paul.

In modern times people refer to the Amiga as what is the OS and it's associated products.

AmigaOS 4 *is* an Amiga product.

MOS *is* in the same category as Amithlon and UAE, Amiga-Emulators/Amiga-compatible. It's not an "Amiga product", but it exists (generally speaking) to use Amiga -related apps on it (to varying degrees of success).

So when people talk of an "Amiga-compatible" demo,  it has to then run on an Amiga product. Otherwise by definition its a product of whatever it's created for, ie. a MorphOS Demo.

Saying "Amiga compatible" in such regards is misleading. Regardless of background of coders/platform/etc. Otherwise you may as well call PSX/PS2/etc/etc titles which also don't run on real Amiga's as "Amiga-compatible" because they were done by people who owned/used/coded for Amigas (once) too.

Just a question... Do you have Amigas? What kind of Amigas?
How much did you spend on classic Amiga hardware?
How much did you waste waiting for promises to materialise?
I grew up with an Amiga. I spend years with an nothing
but Amigas. I have spent thousant of euros on
Amiga hardware and software.
I was one of the first people to blindly defend what
the Amiga companies were doing. I betatested
software from the companies you like (eg. Hyperion).
What have you done to tell me to drop dead, call me
an idiot and say that I have no brain, huh?
I had ENOUGH of Amiga Inc and ENOUGH politics.
I use what is available NOW on my systems and
I will buy OS4 when it will get available.
You have no right to say anything like what you said
on ANN and here.
As they say here "you have to dip your tongue in your
brain before opening your mouth". In our case, do it
with your hands, as this is a written forum:).

Since people in here are interested in MorphOS and
AmigaOS, it won't. Not everyone is as fanaticised as
you... LOL, I can't believe you emailed the Hollywood
author flaming about the decision to support AOS4
AND MOS....
