Title: Tranlators for AOS4 needed!
Post by: SlimJim on February 05, 2003, 06:38:55 PM
From the AOS4 ML (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AmigaOS4/message/5443) (go here to read the original message and get a clickable e-mail adress to Mr. Rey if you're interested) :

Translators are needed for OS4 to take care of some languages where the
ATO can't help at the moment.
Click the "Read More..." link below for more information.

These are the languages needing fresh new
people and the number of translators currently working on them:

- Bosnian (1)
- Croatian (0)
- German (0)
- Hungarian (0)
- Norwegian (1)
- Persian (0)
- Portuguese (1)
- Swedish (0)

Requirements:

- AmigaOS 3.9 with BB#2 installed
- PGP 2.6.3 key or compatible
- NDA on file with Amiga, Inc.

Translators can also double as betatesters if they so desire. Joining
the ATO is also optional, but we really could do with more members.
If you feel like this is the job for you, please drop me a mail.

Distribution of this post is unlimited.

As for the "requirements" (apart from the obvious OS3.9),
the PGP key in question is reportedly available from Aminet.
The NDA is downloadable from AmigaInc:s homepage - you
just sign and fax it to them.

Not sure if you have to be a member of Yahoo to be able to read the original message. The link works for me anyway.

Actually I've just checked Aminet and the normal PGP distrib appears to have been removed probably due to encryption import/export laws.

However, you can download it from here:
http://www.pgpi.org/products/pgp/versions/freeware/amiga/

You might want to check whether you are allowed to import it into your country before downloading  :nervous:

Does one just type his/her information directly onto the form and Email it as an attachment?
What Email address does it need to be sent to??

I was going to ask a similar question, can anyone sign it, or does it have to be a beta tester? Or would I become a beta tester?

Hi,

it will help if you already have an NDA (I think that's what was intended in David Rey's post) but if you want one Gary Peake is the one to contact: gary@amiga.com

I will probably fix my own location, as usual.

But, on a related matter, what charset will OS4 (or MorphOS for that matter) use and support?

From old, AmigaOS has always used iso-8859-1, but some time ago there was this half-assed attempt on going iso-8859-15, yet it was really a pthetic attempt, I have yet not seen *any* iso-8859-15 fonts for amiga, they were all iso-8869-1 with the currency replaced with a euro, ignoring the fact that there are 7 other chars to be replaced too.

What cyrillic charsets is used, koi8-r or iso-8859-5?

Will there be unicode at all? UTF8 seems to have become the most used charset these days, especially on the web.

@Kolla

Read the features list at http://os.amiga.com - it touches on the issues of fonts and charsets and suggests a variety of charsets will be supported.

It would have been cool to participate, but i am stuck in the 3.1 worlds without intention of upgrading my A1200.

Hopefully, some other Swede(s) might be able to help out.

I would like to, actually, I think I would be able to do a
decent translation. Unfortunately 1) I'm currently doing my
master theisis in astrophysics and 2) My Amiga isn't
connected to the net (see my thread "Amiga/Linux help
wanted")... :-/

To be honest, I never use the swedish translations anyway.
I always use AOS3.9 (as well as Windows and Linux) in
native english mode only. I'm sure the translations are very
good - I'm just so used doing everything in english that it
would be very unnerving to see some swedish translation
of "Please insert disk ### in df0:" :-)

The only crucial "local" thing for me is a swedish keyboard
layout.
