Title: 72-pin Memory
Post by: x56h34 on October 02, 2003, 06:17:46 PM
What do you guys consider the safest and most compatible memory for use with Phase 5 accelerators?

I'd say that the highest chance of success would be if using quality brand name SIMMs that correspond with the bottom mentioned specs (correct me if I'm wrong):

FPM, non-parity, 2K refresh, 5V, 60ns, matching pairs for any card that takes more than 1 SIMM.

Of course, these specs are not a must, mind you, but I think are likely to work with less chance of problems. It is also very annoying that some accelerators seem to tolerate different SIMMs better or worse. :-(

Comments? :-)

AFAIK, EDO-RAM is in general working better than FPM-RAM together with miggy-accelerators...

My thoughts too. The only accelerator which benefits from EDO simms is the QuickPak A4000 060. All the other ones do not utilize EDO's advantages, nor parity bits.

4 bit's is not in use indeed but i was referring to what whabang said about FPM (fast page memory)

i have 2 sets of diffrent simm's  , 2x 64 EDO and 2x 64 FPM  and i notice no difference when i use em and comparing (both run in 60ns with all caches on)

cheers
