The world's longest non-regenerated fibre optic cable (http://www.zdnet.com.au/supercentre/broadband/newstech/story/0,2000026403,20270817,00.htm) has begun transmission in Australia. The link can transmit 160 channels each providing 10 Gigabit-per-second transmission speeds.

Hmm I wonder if BT does that connection? A small step up from my 56K MODEM I think :-D
