I want to get a PCMCIA ethernet card for my A1200.
The problem is, that I can't view the list of compatible cards, since Winzip with the LHA addon on my windows laptop doesn't seem to want to unpack the cnet driver 3c589.lha that's on Amibench, first it complained the file names were too long - so I moved the file closer to Winzip's location to get around this, then it curiously says there's not enough disk space available (I'd assume 13gig would be enough!).
With my old laptop, I'd put the files on a DD disk I'd formatted on the Amiga, but (I know this is rather crippling) I don't have a floppy drive on this laptop :-(
So I essentially have no way of transferring files to the Amiga until I get a network card, or a floppy for the laptop, save formatting a DD disk, giving it to a friend, getting him to download the file and copy it onto disk, etc etc
So can anyone email/PM me a list of compatible cards, so at least I can start looking out for one? It would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

The following ethernet and ethernet/modem cards should work:
3Com
3c562, 3c562B, 3c562C, 3c562D, 3c563B, 3c563C, 3c563D, 3c589, 3c589B, 3c589C, 3c589D
3Com Megahertz
3C3FEM556C, 3CCE589EC, 3CCE589ET, 3CCEM556, 3CCEM556B [tested], 3CXE589D, 3CXE589EC 3CXEM556
Farallon
EtherMac *, EtherWave *
Hitachi
HT-4840-13
Motorola
Marquis *
* These cards will not currently work with 3c589.device, because I need more
information about how to identify them. If you have one of these cards, you
can provide me with the necessary details using ModemTest
("comm/misc/ModemTest.lha" on Aminet). Just run it in a shell and send me
the file "pcmcia.attr" that it produces (compressing the file with LhA or
similar will make it much smaller).
By the way, WinRAR handles LhA internally, so it might work better for you than WinZIP :-) I use it all the time.

Ahh, thanks mate, that's a great help!

I had the same problemwith lha files, and the solution is:
WinRAR or WinACE (i prefer WinACE).
give them a try! :-D

And dont forget...
If your using a blizzard accelerator with more than 4mb on it... Your pcmcia slot is hosed .
-
hosed?
my desktop A1200 has just got a ram expansion and fpu...
but I do have a non-working Apollo 1240/25 that I'm trying to get going. Is it only Blizzards that have this problem?

Is it only Blizzards that have this problem?
I believe so !!

This is not true as Blizzard accelerators cleverly go around this problem of memory addressing space. There are OTHER (many, many other!) accelerators that do not, and could cause trouble for the user if more than 4MB of Fast RAM is installed.
I have an A1200D with B1260 and 128MB of Fast RAM installed and the PCMCIA NIC card is working like a charm. The only thing that I had to do was to insert the timing fixes in my Startup-Sequence's BlizKick line in order to remove the PCMCIA reset error(s) (yaaay, no hardware hacks required anymore!). ;-)

@editor
It has nothing to do with Blizzard or not, but wether the RAM is configured
in Zorro2-space (below 16mb) or above it.
RAM-cards without a owns CPU will allways fall in the 1st category,as
the 68EC20 used in the A1200 has only 24address-lines (~16mb).
Cards which allow more than 8mb will allways fall in the 2nd as the Z2-space
is only 8mb wide.
Cards with own CPU but a max RAM of <=8mb may fall in both. Perfect
exmaple is the "Blizzard-turbo-mem" with a 68020 (or was that an EC ??)
at 28mhz.

this is not true , i got a Blizzard card and 64mb on it and a PCMCIA netcard (ACCTON EN2216-2) and it works perfect. no probs at all. :-P

This site was writen by the person i got my pcmcia network card from explains how to set it up http://www.skratchy.demon.co.uk/cnet_main.html (http://www.skratchy.demon.co.uk/cnet_main.html)
The card i have is an ethernet gold 2 manafactured by grey sell systems . :-)
