Title: To LZX or not LZX, that is the question.
Post by: SHADES on October 02, 2003, 04:19:08 AM
I don't get it. What is LZX exactly, I know it's a compression program but is it .CAB from microsoft? was all the .CAB secrets nicked and used in the LZX application?   http://xavprods.free.fr/lzx/

Why was LXZ promised but never released to the PC as a standalone application. It's such a pain to not be able to compress LZX in Win/PC with long filenames etc.  I want to compress on Win/PC to send to my miggy!
Is the .CAB format able to de-compress/compress LZX?

WHY can't the source be released or continued in development on SourceForge like XVID/DIVX was?

All this too much? Well should LZX be re-developed or should LHA be further developed and if so, how.

I still use LZX on my miggy as I get much better compression than I do from LHA.

So is LZX now Microsoft's baby and if so, you silly so and so forths

cabextract history (http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/cabextract.php#history) should answer some of your questions.
