Title: Update of Quake 2 available for download
Post by: MagicSN on December 22, 2002, 04:26:16 AM
Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce that as of today registered users of Quake 2 can download an improved version of the PPC version as well as a highly optimized 68k version (68060 with 3D accelerator required - milage on Emulation Packages (Software Renderer) may vary).

The Update introduces further performance optimizations, a transparent Quake 2 Console, a FPS Counter for the GL Renderer and fixes two issues related inter alia to the "save game" support.

We hope you will enjoy this early X-Mas present and we thank all our customers for their much appreciated support during the past year.

Merry X-Mas and a Happy New Year to all our customers and supporters!

Note: I probably will still put up some 68k compiles of Q2 Mods on the Q2 Amiga Page today. Only Binaries, you also need the PPC Archives with the datafiles.

How much memory does the 060 version require?  i only have 64mb...

64 MB is fine... it should not be less, though.

You might have to use the ref_gl.dll instead of the
slightly faster (but more memory-intensive) ref_glnolru.dll though.

During testing of the game some of our testers
used 64 MB machines.

hmm yes I have spoke to you about it over email, you said in one of the emails that you had the same thing happen to you in an old beta but couldnt get it to happen again.... do you remember yet? I was also on the betatester list.... I also told you I was planning on writting a review for Total Amiga, which I have had to put off because of the bug.... Never the less I shall email you again about it...

Well, as I replied I think it is a problem with your configuration. For example if something concerning PC Joystick is enabled (but no PC Joystick present) this effect could happen. Check your config.cfg carefully...

And you are sure you placed them to the right
directory (baseq2) ? You seem to be the only person
having this problem... sorry if this is a stupid question... but have to go sure... :)

Hmmm, really puzzles me...  let's try to find a solution
on email...

BTW: For people who have not yet noticed... it is possible to change the settings of the transparent Q2 Console using gl_conalpha - 0.0 to 1.0 are possible
values :) Forgot to mention this in the Docs for the Update.
