Does anyone know how I make this game hit just near 15 fps on a A1200/060@50mHz? w/P96...
I've tried to add buffers as suggested in the :rtfm:
But still the game is zZzlow... (my guess would be 1 fps...)
Hmm... Does any one know the "golden" setup for the dear Duke?
-This includes P96 settings, MMU, Vblank...???

You need Oxypatcher, Cyberpatcher or similar. I use Muredox which is free. Get it from aminet (http://www.aminet.net/util/boot/MuRedox.lha). It fixes some FPU instructions. The speed difference is huge! You also need to have MMULib (http://www.aminet.net/util/libs/MMULib.lha) installed.

people who doesnt use oxypatcher if they have a 040 or a 060...well one word...JEEZ!
also remember to use either latest setpatch or the "speedychip" patch , that will also speed it up alot..
beyond that, remeber duke is still very beta, hopefully we will get a really good attempt soon.
cheers
-
thanks a-bunch guys!
I'll try it out...
Is Oxypatcher a commercial prog then... Never heard of it before now...
-
I used to use Oxypatcher, but it stopped working when I upgraded to OS3.9, and I couldn't be bothered to figure out why, so I stopped using it. I'll give Muredox a try.
-
what resolution do you use?
-
Ooh! I installed MuRedox, and now Duke runs a LOT faster... its completely playable now. At the default size (fullscreen, except status bar), it averages 20FPS, and gets 46FPS if I face a wall. Mirrors and overlay text give that a big hit, though. If I shrink the window right down (not that I need to; its perfectly playable fullscreen), I get nearly 80FPS facing a wall, and 60 odd average.
My setup is A4000, Cyberstorm MkIII 060/50, Mediator 4000, Voodoo 3, Repulse soundcard via AHI. It works great!

Play Mac Duke under Shapeshifter, you'll get much better framerate :-)
-
Ahhh but Mac duke doesn't feel the same. The engine isn't quite right. This is *proper* duke. Plus, the Mac didn't get Atomic edition. PLUS I don't have to install Shapeshifter, a Mac ROM, MacOS...
-
*PLUS* I don't own acopy of Mac Duke Nukem 3D.
-
@Xeron
Just busting your chops :-P
-
yes oxypatcher is commerical ware ....fairly cheap when it came, i regged and got 2 updates before it died...but i still use it even after 6 years :) thats kinda cool.
but as others say here, there is free stuff which is new'r and hopefully less hacky.
i havent tried all but i didnt like them i tried and thats why i am still using oxypatcher...
cheers

Remember guys MuRedox/Oxypatcher/Cyberpatcher
are HACKS...and can have adverse side effects in
certain situations (I get garbled sound output with
some programs using MuRedox). They will
only speed up some few programs which use
68881/68882 FPU instructions that are
unimplemented in the '040/'060.
-edit-
That being said - used in combination with certain
programs they can provide a huge improvement
in speed and 'smoothness'. BTW: If you use MuLib
package you should only use MuRedox, and not
Oxy or Cyberpatcher.

I run an A4000T, Cyberstorm MKIII 060 66Mhz, CybervisionPPC 8Mb Gfx Card and 128Mb FastRam.
I get the following results on Amiduke:
320x200 8bit CyberGfx Screenmode - 21fps
640x480 8bit CyberGfx Screenmode - 11fps
Saying this, I do get a bit more in certain areas of the game, such as the falling down the pipe in the LA Meltdown scene. I get 44fps.. but thats not all the time. The above results are what I get with the normal gameplay.
Overall on my PC, Duke uses a 320x200 screenmode, so on my Amiga running that screenmode, its just as playable. Sounds are clear, movement is very good. Overall I am VERY HAPPY with the results.

To LP:
I play Duke Nukem every day on the Kali game server, but I play the PC version. The PC version of Duke Nukem is the best version of the game. The Amiga 1200 version SUCKS! I have drawn some of the best maps in the world for Duke Nukem. They are the famous HGC Series of maps. There are 36 of the HGC maps for Duke Nukem so far. Go to Kali and you can get the famous HGC maps from me. :-D
-
To Corrie:
I would NOT be very happy with those results, those results SUCK !
I run Duke Nukem on my Pentium 4 PC at 800 X 600 resolution and the game runs at full speed while playing deathmatch on the internet. You should be able to do this too. Duke Nukem is an old game that does not require much speed or graphics power. Surely, a computer like an Amiga 4000 Tower should be able to handle an old game like Duke Nukem at 800 X 600 resolution and at full speed (at least 30 fps). If not, then buy the PC version of the game, because the Amiga version SUCKS !

@ xeron
Thats strange I've been useing Oxypatcher w/os3.9 for a long while now, no problem mon.

Rather play Duke on a Pentium 266 which is 3 times :-x faster than a A1200-060 not to mention that the game is running in native code.

So I shouldnt bother on me 1200/030 then.

how does that help ? no PC in my house !
@pappavis - interesting avatar ... :-o ;-)
-
The Amiga 1200 version SUCKS!
I am sure Amiga 2000HD Professional version will rock our world! :-)
Oh, Duke runs 60fps in 800x600 on Pegasos. Fast enough.
-
doomaster: LOL! , btw duke3d amiga is A STRAIGHT port of the pc one , and its the latest DUKE 3d version ever released for pc! , stop spreading ####.
to the guy who asked about 030 , yes it will work but i advice you to just wait a little bit longer as its still an VERY early hack/port , and remeber everyone said it was IMPOSSIBLE to port it , look...well we got it now ,when we have like 0.5 or 0.8 i guess the game will run like it should, though i aint unsatisfied with the results on my setup atm , but thats because i use a highend a1200 .
my a1200 (THE TOY) is infact 600 TIMES faster than doommasters A2000. or maybe not.
anyway dood's keep in mind...this is an very early port still, time will heal the wounds and remeber duke3d works fine in Shapeshifter even and atm its running faster trough shapeshifter than the actual amiga port (68k) on my setup , but the ppc (wos) port is faster than the mac version ofcourse.
cheers

Erm, so is the A1200 version. It's been compiled for 68k and so is native...
Ok, it's not hand-coded assembler any more, and 060 isn't as fast as 266 pentiums anyway, but if I guess if people playing duke on an Amiga wanted to play it on a PC, they wouldn't bother with the Amiga, would they?
And as Piru said, Pegasos eats it alive. :)
-
Warp Quake runs a bit nippy on my Amiga PPC and ADoom, so i am guessing, after a few more versions) that Duke will as well, Warp version wise. +30fps is pretty good.
-
Actually the problem i have is making Hexen and Heretic to run faster in screen mode.
