Post by: chromozone on December 09, 2002, 01:27:04 AM
For those interested in alternatives: Check out MENUET OS

Here is a full GUI OS that runs on an x86 Includes OS, Apps, Compiler & Full sorce code  All on a 1.44 floppy & it's free.

Uh, I think you have the wrong URL.  Shouldn't it be http://www.menuetos.org/ (http://www.menuetos.org/)?

Interesting, I may get my old 386DX up and running again... This may be good for WIMP base boot disk.

I can't boot it...

When I try to boot from the boot floppy it says 'KERNEL MNT not found'.

And nothing else happens..

Do you gain space (except speed) if you write an OS in assembly? Aros is in C and still fitts on a disk :-D
If only they could make it look a little bit more beautiful when booting from a disk.

I made a wb 880k disk with two beautiful patterns for a friend of mine who had bought a used vanilla A1200 without AmigaOS and it looked very good.

If you liked that then you might like this (http://www.skyos.org) too.  And if you haven't been to openbeos.org (http://www.openbeos.org) then have a look at it as well.

Very nice, but what's this got to do with the Amiga?

Well...it's smart, but is it an alternative? Why dump an OS with very little modern software for one that has practically none? Just because it runs on x86? And I could say the same for AROS.
