- GoldED Studio AIX SP 5/GoldED Barebones SP 5 released
Service Pack 5 is now available for registered users. This is a free download on the GoldED web site (http://members.aol.com/goldedstudioaix/projects/golded/updates.htm). SP5 is mostly a maintenance upgrade but there is also some optical finetuning. Requirements: for users who already have SP3 or later installed (older installations can only be upgraded with a service pack CD).
- Free versions updated
The free GoldED versions (http://members.aol.com/goldedstudioaix/projects/golded/demo.htm) have also been ugraded to SP5. Free versions are limited to editing 1000 lines but other than that are fully functional as editors and have
no other limitiations [1].
- FACE/ON 0.9 released
FACE/ON (http://members.aol.com/goldedstudioaix/projects/golded/updates.htm) is a themes installer for GoldED. Use FACE/ON to preview and install visual themes and alternative menus (here is a screenshot (http://members.aol.com/goldedstudioaix/images/faceon.gif)). Requirements: graphics card and GoldED Studio AIX SP5 (or GoldED Barebones SP5).
[1] Some add-ons packages are not included with the trial versions to keep the download within reasonable limits. Specifically, there is no gcc
development environment and no spellchecking.

> GoldEd PPC for 4.0 would be nice
GoldED should run fine under release-versions of OS4 and MorphOS, assuming that there is indeed OS3 compatibility. A native version wouldn't be any better: on a 800MHz CPU the limiting factor for scrolling will be the key repeat rate of your keyboard and the speed you can reach with your mouse. In other words, the 68K version will be blazingly fast on a 800+MHz PPC. A native version wouldn't feel any faster. I'm using GoldED under WinUAE on a 1.6GHzPC and it's as fast as "native Windows editors" outside WinUAE. Requesting a native version only makes sense if OS4/Morphos have additional features that require support.
