Title: Announcement: Malibu plugin for Hollywood
Post by: softwarefailure on December 04, 2002, 01:40:00 PM
Airsoft Softwair will soon release the first plugin for Hollywood (http://www.airsoftsoftwair.com/). The Malibu plugin extends Hollywood to accept also Scala presentations and display them. This makes a dream come true for those Amiga users who always wanted to display their old Scala presentations on Workbench or on an own Intuition screen in a system friendly way. The Malibu plugin is scheduled for release in the middle of January 2003 and requires Hollywood 1.0. Additionally I want to point out that I cannot attend the ARC show in Aachen unfortunately. Therefore Hollywood is not available for sale there either.

Hollywood looks pretty damn good. Are there any reviews online anywhere?

@Gnarly
No reviews yet. From what I gather, this is pretty much script based, hence the lack of screenshots. So don't start thinking about ease-of-use here, it will require a lot of work to get results similar to Scala. Speaking of which................................ The Scala playback mode is interesting. I'm OK at the moment as I've got a TV card and can easily use Scala through that and the Voodoo3, nice.
If, as previously announced Hollywood is to be moved across to OS4, will it still work on the Amiga1/XE? OS4 on a classic machine will be OK as the AGA chipset will be there as required by Scala, but they're not there on the A1, so how will it work?

Hopefully someone ambitious enough will develop a PowerPoint plug-in as well.

Can you say openoffice.org?

@gnarly

I can't really give any reviews or anything since I don't own it (yet).  I can say this though, Hollywood is a complete rewrite of RainBoot3 which was quite awesome but lacked the events scripting options (while, do while, for, and boolean ifs).  Hollywood now has that capability essentially making it a full blown scripting language specifically designed for multimedia.  One of the things I asked Andreas Falkenhahn for was the ability to run Scala scripts back when RainBoot3 had just come out.  Rainboot3 was well worth the price but now that the rewrite has the functionalities of a full scripting language Hollywood is even more it's value.  When you add in the ability to save the script as an executable and package it up for people to play who don't have Hollywood, then yeah it's worth it's weight.  Andreas is also quite responsive to feature requests and bug reports.

An AmigaVision-like interface would be a wonderful addition.
