Post by: Kermito on November 07, 2002, 10:56:46 PM
The AmigaOne has been slashdotted.

Check the news and comments in here (http://slashdot.org/articles/02/11/07/0533256.shtml?tid=138/).

A lot of slashdot posters are commenting on how ugly OS 4.0 is..

The Blue Nowee GUI looks good but its a bit too dark..  but still hes on the right track. I think the OS 4.0 Intuition guy should work with the creator of this theme.

Warning: Possible Hoax! :-?

Quite a ways down the SlashDot story is this entry:

dodgy Amiga Mozilla user agent string (Score:3, Interesting)

(User #28495 Info | http://www.sensibleerection.com/)

Somewhat off topic, but I've been getting a charmingly interesting user agent string in my apache logs lately, (which has the magical ability to segfault my stats engine, webalizer).

that string would be:
tSi Mozilla/5_EXPERIMENTAL (AOS4.1 ALPHA; PPC)

Amiga OS 4.1 Alpha? hrm. Is this string fake? 4.1 when 4.0 isn't out yet?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Make of it what you will.

No he didn't 'fill it', but early on he was there beating the same horse "There is no more Amiga hardware", "Compulsary licensing is ruining" blah blah.

Come on now Sehund. :-x

If you have a problem with what somebody writes on another site, please post a reply addressing that on that site, pointing out whatever inaccuracies you believe to have found.

Is it not enough that this site apparently finds someone else reporting on a new distributor of a POP mobo on another site so interesting that it warrants a news item, but we must also have meta-discussions about the discussions on another site and comment on individual users there?

Apparently, it almost made Tomas above believe that I was "filling slashdot with anti amiga" posts.

I made 6 posts/replies in that discussion, which at the time of writing has 403 comments! That's not "filling" with any kind of posts, and if someone think it's "poisoning" he's free to abstain from reading the comments or raising his browsing threshold or just try to endure the pain. Oh, damn, the other readers found it "interesting" and "informative", not "poisoning", so raising the threshold wouldn't filter it out. Guess you should've posted replies of your own then.

Nobody should have to feel even hinted at to stop expressing his opinion on one site only because someone on another site simply doesn't agree with him. That applies to everyone for any subject. When registering for an amiga.org account, a person doesn't sign a contract disallowing deviation in publicly expressed opinions from whatever the latest trademark-owning entity says at a given time.

Oh, how I despise the growing and suffocating sectarianism.

In general there were many objective and positive postings. I was mainly disappointed with Seehund's comments though.

Seehund, if you want a Pegasos just buy one with MorphOS instead. If you want AmigaOS buy an AmigaOne, it's as simple as that and has always been like that during the heydays of the Amiga.

Only if Amiga Inc can come to an agreement with bPlan or Thendic we will see AmigaOS4 licensed for the Pegasos, of course they can continue to sell versions of the board without AmigaOS4, just like Eyetech will be doing.

The efforts of the AmigaOS4 team needs to be rewarded with software sales. Eyetech will sell both Linux boards and slightly more expensive AmigaOne boards including AmigaOS4. If many Linux people just decide to pirate AmigaOS4 this will be very unfair for the little market we already have.

Seehund, you are not saving AmigaOS, you are only hurting the possibility of our developers to make a profit and therefor hindering its future advancement.

My favourite comment:

I'm only interested if they rename the PPC chip "Even Fatter Agnus".

Did you notice the collosal ignorance accusing classic Amigas of having a "CGA 40x25 Text Display"?

Numerous posters had to correct THAT one!

In my mind, TOO many confuse classic Amigas with C64s and Vic20s.

And
@ Seehund: Because you hail from "Шведская ССР",
your posts do horrible things to English Language keymap displays.
