Title: Quake 2 Amiga Port available
Post by: MagicSN on November 07, 2002, 01:09:34 PM
Quake 2 for AmigaOS finally went officially on sale at the WOASE show in London on November 2.

The game was shown in a deathmatch-network of 3 Amiga's running a custom level especially developed for the show.

The network server was a PC to show that Quake 2 for AmigaOS also supports playing with PC-users on the same Multiplayer-Network over TCP/IP though of course
you can also use an Amiga as Server. The Quake 2 for Amiga package comes with a comfortable installer script and startup-GUI and Amigaguide-Documentation plus the original
Windows-Version of Quake 2 containing the
data-files.

Over 55 mods for Quake 2 will be made available to end-users through various channels including the internet.

Copies of Quake 2 for Amiga will be available at your local dealer in the course of this week.

Pricing may vary, so shop around.

I wish I got Quake 2 too. I forgot to get it and now I don`t have the cash. I had a go on this and
its damn good. Up there with Payback PPC as the best Amiga games. Its the best port by far.

Well, at least Players of D-Day, Gloom and some
other Mods are still very active (when I first
went on the Gloom-Server to Beta-Test the first
working Gloom-exe, there were around 25 people online :) ). There's now also some Devastation
Q2 Servers again (when I ported it next to nothing happened with Devastation anymore, but this seems to have changed a bit again).

ChaosDM is also still quite active.
But for some other Mods which were well-played
when Q2 was still number 1 in PC-Games not much
is happening anymore.

I think there was some sort of "Q2 Nostalgia" after the Q2 Source-Code was released, though.

It has also to be considered that there are  people who think that Q2 Gameplay is better than Q3 Gameplay, so these people never stopped playing
Q2.
