Hi all,
I just got a pcmcia fax/modem card : it is a psion gold card and should work with cnet.device. Anyone successfull with this card on amiga ?

cnet.device is for NE2000 compatible network cards.. You need a pcmcia serial driver.
There should be one on aminet.
-
Thanks a lot Jope, this is always a bit confusing for me.

There are two drivers on Aminet. I have the same card but lost the dongle before I was ever able to test it. :-(
hard/drivr/pcmser.lha
hard/drivr/pccardserial.lha

I picked up those 2 files plus cardpatch and cardreset. Installed everything, put cardpatch and cardreset in startup-sequence.
Next step is to configure my network connection with miami init. So far my pcmcia is not recognised whether I choose pcmser.device or pccardserial.device. Miami init said could not open... device might be in used.
How you guys make your pcmcia modem card recognized ?

Have you tried to take out and reinsert the card while the computer is running.
-
- Lose the patches for now.
- Remove card
- Boot machine
- Insert card
- Open a terminal program
- If not already done, configure it to use the pcmcia serial device
- Do what is necessary to open the device
- Try and send the command "at" to the modem..
at <- you type
OK <- the modem answers
Did it work?
The TCP/IP stack is useless for debugging it if you have no idea whether the device actually talks to the card..

@ Fx : yes I tried without success
@ Jope : I think Ncomm is lying somewhere on my HD. Is that enough ? I never used it so I will need to dig the manual.
Is there a problem with pcmcia and ram ? I used to have an overdrive HD with MTEC1230 8Mb and the amiga would not recognised the interface with 8Mb ram but only with 4Mb.
My system is A1200PPC+64Mb.

The PCMCIA<->RAM clash exists only if you use a ram card that isn't configured in the 32bit area. No problem with the BPPC.
NComm should be enough.. Almost any term program allows you to choose what serial driver to use.
-
in Ncomm, when i tried set device and enter pccardserial.device or pcmser I get "can not open serial.device" so I guess something is wrong with my pcmcia.

I don't suppose you still have software for the Overdrive installed or any other software that might interfere with PCMCIA? You could also check the output from running modemtest (from Aminet) to check your PCMCIA port at a lower level.
-
@ ncafferkey : no overdrive HD here ! (but I use to have one a long time ago when I bought my A1200 back in 1991).
I did use modemtest and it did not find any info (can not remember exactly but it did not look good).
