...de-soldering that bloody battery from my A4000 motherboard!
I've got two lovely long-ish wires there now, all ready to solder on my new coin battery when I get home.
Just to say thanks too all the people who gave me advice Friday/Saturday on how do proceed with this little hack.
Here's hoping the machine works OK when I get it put back together.
Cheers
Daniel

One thing i still wonder.... what exactly is the specs/name of the battery i can use for replacing it? have heard standard pc batteries may explode for some reason...

@Tomas
Maybe PC-batteries aren't up to non-stop-charge, and the A4k has no way
to sense when to stop charging (or it expects a bigger one, which would charge
longer) ???

I destroyed a motherboard here at work from a PC, solely for the purpose of nicking it's battery for the A4000.
You can use any PC battery I think, aslong as you put a diode in there to stop the Amiga trying to charge it when the power is on. If you try to force power through a lithium "coin" battery then they can explode.
Just gotta stop that and you'll be sorted.
Look for LithBatt.lha on Aminet, it'll explain it a whole lot better than I have :-)

I do not have an amiga or anything else to view the iff file on :-(
Also does anyone have a screenshot of where this diode goes on? so i can see what it looks like..
Seems like it is pretty impossible to find this diode around here... Searched around the net, no results.. We do not have radio shack here... I guess my miggy is doomed then, unless there exist some battery that can handle being charged..

Wanna by an A1200? :-D
Oh, and this is how the LithBatt.iff looks like:

So i guess the diode goes on the same spots as the battery then? Then this will be no prob, as long as i can find that diode somewhere... Is this diode/ common in electronic devices? or some other diode that works the same way
Thanks for picture btw

Why not order the "real battery" from Varta.
It is not that pricey, and is the actual battery.
When I replaced my A4k battery, I soldered 2 long leads to the motherboard. Using a plastic spray can "cap", I hot glued the cap to an area away from the motherboard. After attaching the battery to the wires, the battery was placed into the cap.
The battery was then hot glued to the bottom of the cap. Hot glue was used to also tab the wiring at the rim of the cap, and at several points along its travel back to the motherboard.

Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/)
Possibly one of the most awesome little win32 programs you could have. I rank it up there with PuTTY :-)

@Tomas
a common diode like 1N4148 is good.
