rewritten article: From Amiga.com "We are sponsoring a contest where your logo design may be chosen for the "I Am Amiga Club" t-shirt. We are also accepting suggestions for a new name for the current "I Am Amiga" club."
Read the Press Release (http://os.amiga.com/corporate/081002-contest.shtml)
Welcome and thank you for joining over a thousand of your friends and becoming founding members of the Amiga Club. We really need to come up with a better name for the club.
You will all be receiving in the coming weeks, your Shirt and Coupons. They will be delivered directly to your address that you gave us when you joined.
Everything will ship shortly after the logo and shirt design has been selected.
As announced at AmiWest we are going to be opening this up to the Amiga community. We will start this contest on Friday August 9th, and open up voting about a week later.
The Amiga club is here to bring us all together, and to jump start us towards the future.
Thank you for being here, and we look forward to getting things moving.
This really is just the beginning.
Look for news of this contest to be posted to all of the Amiga Inc websites (in particular, amiga.com) later this evening.
All the best,
Bill McEwen and the rest of the team at Amiga.

Personally, I like the double-x as I like to swim in my shirts.
:pint:
-
On it's way ?
How can it be on it's way, when they haven't decided on the design yet ?
How would Nicalas Sallin put that ?
"I tell you : NO t-shirt before october !!" :-P :-P
-
Sorry Kronos, I cant stand your bashing anymore. Why dont you got too ann.lu where your friends Samface, Cheesegrate and Alkis are? They are at the same level as you.
Is there any "killfile"-feature in this system? I dont want to read posts from certain authors that keep whining about every little thing like a 5-year old boy. This is really sad. :/
/W
-
Actually he does have a point !!
Ooer ... ME defending Kronos !! :-o
-
@Wittgenstein
I was just pointing out that the title of this news-item was clearly
misleading, or do you prefer positive but false "news" ?
And when I thought of that it kinda remided me of Nicolas and his
"no OS4 on the CS-PPC before September"-posts in this spring, which
even I thought as trolling back than (but still he will be right).
Can't stand a little (mean) humor ? Grow some thicker skin !
-
@Wittgenstein:
Previously when we had a threshold system before there were posts that were moderated outside of visible reading levels without modifying your personal settings to see the negative numbered posts. Because of this, it was thought that AO was biased towards specific members when it was really the other members moderating the posts off the comments. The best way is if you find someone you don't want to read, skip over it and go on to the next. I hope that helps.
:pint:
-
I would like a Medium thanx.
but i don't think the t-shirt size will b 2 much of a problem.
If worst comes to worst I'll get it professionally adjusted in size, locally of course ;-)
-
@Kent:
Yes, but the problem is that almost every positive news or thread starts with comments from people like Kronos. The problem isnt that they dont agree about the specific item, the problem is that they _NEVER_ posts anything constructive. It is always bashing, bashing and bashing. Where are the constructive discussions? Are the destructive by nature? (maybe Kronos himself can answer this). If we want to create a new community around any new Amiga or Amiga-related system we learn to be creative, constructive and positive again but still not trust Amiga blindly. I belive there is a sane path between the these two extreme points (the bashers and the worshippers).
The killfile-solution may be a little bit drastic, but I think everyone would benefit of some kind of moderation. A simple warning to people that cant behave would be more than enough and with many active moderators, the biasing would be neglectable.
Keep up the good work but dont let Amiga.org sink to the current levels of Ann.lu and Moobunny.
/W
-
@Wittgenstein
I never post anything constructive ?
Just look up some "help-related" threads !
The problem is that a vast majority of the "positive" news are
so extremly biased and poor-worded, that they don't reflect reality.
Yes I would like a "rebirth" of the platform, but celebrating a
t-shirt-design contest, or babbling about vapor CPUs (which won't
hit anything "Amiga" in the next 2 years) won't help.
-
wayhay!
I would rather have my A1 first though! :-D
-
@Kronos
Yes, but like I said, there is a path between! Because you dont like the worshippers you dont need to bash it and be negative. Why not be normal and sane? If some people think that a t-shirt-design contest is fun why dont you let them? Spend you energy on something better.
I dont belive in a rebirth of the platform, only a rebirth of the community but think that even that is very unlikly. However, I think it is still worth a try since there are atleast three new Amiga-like platforms comming out (AOS4, MOS and Amithlon2).
/W
-
@Wittgenstein
Believe me, I'm allready having my fun :-D :-D
There are basiclly 3 ways to react on all these "news":
1. Believe them all (even those that contradict eachother). Makes you a BAF.
2. Be sceptical, but still take them serious. Lead to frustation and
probrally even a heart attack. I don't need that.
3. Don't take them to serious and have a good laugh. The whole
A1-demand-gauge / lootery / club / free t-shirt / lifetime / anual
membership / design-contest" has allready provided me with lots of
fun, and I expect to have much more before anybody get his money back.
You are absolutly right about the impossiblity of a real rebirth,
and I've come to that conclusion years ago. Nowadays I see it
as just another hobby just like collecting stamps, or buildin
modells.
So if you see anothor Kronos-post that doesn't include any
technical questions/facts, you should try to view theam as a
joke. Can you laugh about all the mean things the Monty-Phytons
did back then ? If yes, you shoul also be able to do the same
about my jokes (not saying that they would have the same quality).
-
What I sure would love to see is a t-shirt with the new Amiga OS.4 logo. That would be really great.

@Wittgenstein
While I can agree with your comments, something you have to take into consideration is any form of criticism is still constructive regardless of how degrading it can be. Take for instance posters like Dammy, Cheesegrate, the multiple personalities of Shawn, and several others. Sometimes they post comments that are extremely opinionated but nevertheless there is still some form of constructive discussion involved. Well, maybe not with those guys, but you get the idea.
In business marketing you learn that 20% of your clients will cause 80% of your grief and only a fraction of a percent will voice their opinions in the public eye. Considering there isn't a tangible piece of hardware yet (asside from beta devs) the ones causing the grief is reduced and the amount of grief is increased. When a tangible product is availble for purchase, these numbers will stagger to almost nothing within the first few weeks but kick up to almost 70/30 for about a week. Shortly after, the numbers will even out to the average 80/20 rule.
Personally I don't like the title of this article, or the news content, and would have asked for quite a bit more from Amiga Inc regarding an official press release. Nevertheless the news article was posted and I have updated it little by little correcting grammar, adding links, and other tidbits as I find new information. There are three lines that you may or may not see... two of which are extremely radical the other is a very wide road of people waiting for something they can sink their teeth into. I'm in the middle of the road waiting to hop on the train it seems.

There is no sane path between theese two, because
they are both the same ! The only border between them is the border of their preferred system.
(or should I say, their already made up minds).
And I dont put Kronos on the basher/worshiper side,
he is more interested in the truth, and often uses reason in his arguments.

Damn, that what I always wanted to avoid :-D

Hi' Coder
don't you need a new avatar???
I have tried to make one :-D
(http://gnaf.hjem.orangenet.dk/coder_new.gif)

I'd really like to have a mousemat or something useful instead of a probably to big, pösig and wide-armed t-shirt. I'm not going to change my fashion just because I use a certain computer.
I relly hate these commercial lowbudget (I reckon it'll be lowbudget) t-shirts.
Why not an amiCoke? Anything but a t-shirt, oh yeah, ofcourse no socks please. Tubesocks that curls and sweatens your feet, uaek.
8-)
But maybe that's just me.
-
@ Kronos
So if you see anothor Kronos-post that doesn't include any technical questions/facts, you should try to view theam as a joke.
Well, I'll try to keep that in mind. But the line between your 'jokes' and bashing are thin and they might not be 'jokes' for the people involved.
I dont mind if anybody jokes about the Amiga Inc and all their turns, but I would like to see more respect from everybody to people like the AOS4 team, MOS team, bplan, Eyetech who all try to make a diffrence.

@hnl_dk
That's a nice one. I allready had an idea for another avatar. Maybe I will make it some day. Something else instead of the bucket. It sure helps because I have not had a visit from the government yet.

Keep up the good work but dont let Amiga.org sink to the current levels of Ann.lu and Moobunny.
Amiga.org isn't sinking. You guys really need to relax and accept that while almost everyone here wants the Amiga to succeed (including Kronos) not everyone shares the same "mindless automaton cheerleader" attitude.
Some people are zealots, some are realists. Both want the Amiga to survive, but some are simply more realistic about it. Besides, diversity is our friend because it keeps you thinking for yourself.
If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's people who get their opinions on life around them from CNN. Likewise in the Amiga community, I really can't stand the people (I used to be one) who get their opinion from the pages of Amiga.com and never stop to read between the lines or to realize what is really being said.
Over time, I strongly believe more damage has been done to this community by the cheerleaders who, despite being told otherwise, refuse to believe that Amiga isn't simply following in Commodore's footsteps trying to compete with the likes of Microsoft and Apple.
-
@ bubble
There is no sane path between theese two, because they are both the same !
There is a welldefined path between those two types; don't believe anything you hear/read, dont expect anything until you have it in your hand and try to think for yourself. Add some optimism to this and you are on it.
And I dont put Kronos on the basher/worshiper side
I put Kronos in the basher side since he always believes the worst and lacks optimism. This view is ofcourse very subjective.
he is more interested in the truth, and often uses reason in his arguments.
What truth? I think it is very clear that Kronos is only intrested in his own truth. And ofcourse he uses reason in his argument. He is a smart guy so I wouldnt expect anything less.

And I dont put Kronos on the basher/worshiper side,

Yep...sometimes Kronos seems like a big ole pain in the arse when you read his posts. But he also knows where the line of sanity runs. I don't think Kronos is a true bad "Troll" here, he just plays devils advocate with a set of scales to make you think about other possibilities. Not that most of us need it, but maybe a few. There is alot of reality in what he has to say, although it does sound negative alot of the time, it's hard to distinguish between the way something would sound if you were haveing a direct conversation with someone vs. typing text on a forum....meaning sometimes gets lost in the way the user reads a sentence (take a look at the topic on "Exec is 68k" stuff) Just try to keep an open mind about things. It's good to have a certain amount of optimism, but also healty to have a dose of reality to even it out.
But the others mentioned from Ann.lu, yep, they are the true Trolls. I rarely even read posts there anymore..it's just not worth reading.

@ Wayne

No, but if you take a look at Ann.lu, Moobunny and SCAM you will notice that the discussion today has sunken several levels. Most threads are filled with all these fights (Ainc vs MOS, H&P vs Amithlon, Amithlon vs Amithlon, Ainv vs H&P....). It is very hard to find any threads with constructive discussion.
Over time, I strongly believe more damage has been done to this community by the cheerleaders who, despite being told otherwise, refuse to believe that Amiga isn't simply following in Commodore's footsteps trying to compete with the likes of Microsoft and Apple.
Yes, there are zealots that get this "Amiga"-thing over their heads but I dont think they inflict and real damage since they buy the hardware and the software. The people I think hurt the comunity the most are the bashers - the people that bash everything they dont agree with or like. I dont blame them for bashing Amiga Incs anouncements, but when they bash people that spends their spare time and/or pocket money to contribute to this dying platform I think it has gone too far.
Let's hope the future brings more respect to the members of our tiny fragile community.

@Wayne,
Hear, hear, and hear, hear again!
I vote for a permanent link to that post from the front page of Amiga.org!
"Forum guidelines: Think."
When I want to passively read marketing and press-releases, I'll go to the corporate site. The news-item comments and forums here are for discussion.
Of course I'm not saying that agreement with and praise of something coming from A. Inc. is automatically "wrong", I'm saying that since this is supposed to be a forum for discussion people shouldn't be surprised when they actually see discussion and different opinions.
When everyone in a forum says the exact same thing, then that forum is dead and no longer fills any meaningful function. Then it's nothing but a sickening circle-jerk (http://amiga.org/forums/viewtopic.php?topic_id=2503&forum=1&start=20&viewmode=flat&order=0).
-

Basher of reality pherhaps :)
Basher of un-truth, hype, etc..
That fits me atleast.
Some people are this way, I find life easier to
cope with, if I think and anylyse things instead of
just follow all the shiny objects.. :)
-
@Wittgenstein
I hear what you are saying, but Kronos is not a troll. Personally i wish Kronos wouldn't be so negative by default, and I think at times he unwittingly spreads false information. But I don't think he is here to troll. look at some of the world class famous Amiga trolls. They deliberately are foul mouthed, use personal insults and spread completely false information just to start as much conflict as possible.
In a nutshell just because I completely disagree with Kronos, doesn't mean I think he should be silenced. Yeesh, I'm defending Kronos. Thanks for the avatar bud :-x
-
@ redrumloa
The trolls are for me people that lie and make up thing in their minds and then go you and shout about it. Kronos is certainly not a troll, since he try to makes good and, as far as I can tell, truthfull posts. But I still think he is a basher since the posts are sometimes negative, destructive and pointless. I just want him to be a little bit more positive, or at least keep the negative energy to himself since I am sick of it.

Good news, I think the club needs a new name. Can't think of any good ones straight away, though. Might not need to be anything fancy, though. "Club Amiga"? "Hardcore Amigans"? "AmigaCore"? "Amicore"? "Defenders of Amiga"? Anyone else have any ideas? Certainly someone should be able to come up with something half-decent?
Hey Lyon, why not enter the logo contest? :-)
Oh, and I want an AmigaOS4.0 T-shirt...
