940 memberships/coupons sold
Countdown to the draw: The promotion has ended. Coupon count may still rise as third party dealers submit their sales. Winners will be announced soon.

Winners? do they expect that many third party sales or have they decided to have an early prize draw as a 'goodwill' gesture?

So this count didn't include all the coupons 3rd party vendors sold. I'll be pretty pissed if the final count(doubtfull) is over 1500 and I've been using this Clinton avatar for nothing :-x

It suits you!

Hrm, wonder if Bill (McEwen) has bought a coupon, bet he wins any systems if theres a draw afterall, :-D

940 coupons is far from 2500!! What are they going to announce? The winners of 940 t-shirts? I didn't buy the coupon because and don't have a dealer nearby who will accept the coupon. And following the results didn't give me any reason to buy one for the lottery since there obviously would be no winners. If I had thought there would be a chance of the lottery becoming a reality I would have joined. Do they hope to sell 1560 coupons at Amiwest which they will include without any notice? I thought a deadline was a deadline. Of course I should know better by now...

The count did include 3rd party sales, but since the draw was open to everyone (including the 3rd parties) until the closure date, some late sales will not have been registered yet.
Don't expect a huge increase in the final number.

The club membership is meant to show that there is a significant amount of people who care about AmigaOS4. It is not really about a lottery itself, although having the chance of winning prices makes it more enjoyable to participate and follow this early promotion event.
-
Having around 1000 people caring enough about our future platform to join this Amiga club, is a very good sign already. These people are very likely to give good support to 3rd party software developers as well. It is a solid minimal consumer base, which is likely to get much larger when the platform becomes available on the market!
IMO the club membership should be continued to be offered, even after the promotion period but in an alternative form, as there still are tons of people who haven't heard about the club yet, as they are on vacation or aren't reading on the internet that much.

By the 80/20 rule that's 4700. 80% of your business is from 20% of your customers. So, there's only about 940 diehards out there.
-
The 940 number is not bad at all - there are tons of people who are still skeptics about the A1 boards, lots of people who still think to either go with MorphOS or A1/AOS 4.0 once its out...
I would suggest to manufacture a double amount of boards (2,000) because once the NDA will be expired, people will get the developers boards while other will get the consumer version - things would move pretty fast, and I don't think that staying with 0 boards will help sales so much. The 2000 number is a low risk number, since the skeptics number of people is obviously more then the people who bought the coupon, and once things start rolling - people are getting convinced and they'll buy..
Just my 2 cents..

I would suggest to manufacture a double amount of boards (2,000)
Lets assume 1 board costs Alan 350Euro before it is delievered to him,
that would be around 700000Euro he had to pay when he orders,
and it would take 1 to 2 months till delievery.
Thats a hole lot of money, and some bank may want its share of it. ;-)
He would also have to make that order months before OS4 is
actaully finished (so both can go on sale as soon as it is ready) and just
an extra month of unexpected debugging would mean extra cost.
Also noone knows how many of the "club-members" will just buy OS4
for their Phase5-HW, or will wait a bit longer till they buy an A1 (some
may even wait for the XE).
Very risky I would say :-o

By the 80/20 rule that's 4700.
I think it's dangerous and irresponsible for anyone to apply such a general rule here. Most Amigans are die-hards, or else we wouldn't still be here. I think a 20/80 rule would be more realistic in the Amiga market.

@coder
:-D Hrmmm, well then, good for him, hehe...
-
Pritty good, close to the thousand mark!
-
I suppose I should admit I was wrong, but I think I was right, at the time I made my remarks, and things have changed since then :-o
Anyway, the count doesn't mean a whole lot, except in general terms, I mean they got 1,000 they didn't get 100,000 but it wasn't 0 either.
I may buy an AmigaOne, though my upcoming marriage makes it look difficult this year...and the fact that you cannot buy an AmigaOne, makes it difficult too.
-
once the NDA will be expired, people will get the developers boards while other will get the consumer version
What will the difference be between the developer and the consumer boards?
Alan stated on the A1 mailing list that the remainder of the dev boards (or user boards) will not be released until the firmware was complete. so wont this mean the boards will be the same?
-
Am I just being over optemistic or does anybody else think they may have extended the deadline to coincide with Amiwest as they may be ready to make an announcement there about OS4?
Could hyperion be closer to completion than we think?
Just a thought, feel free to shoot this one down
-
@Driod
I wouldn't get your hopes up! I started to think along those lines
too, but decided not to get too optimistic about it. OS4 I hope will
be released by the end of the year, although from what I am able to
work out in the forums, unlikely in the next few months.
Still, fingers crossed! :-D

I dunno about it having ended. Just checked the page and the count has risen to 966.
They're obviously still counting stragglers.

> Also noone knows how many of the "club-members"

That's exactly what I'm planning for the time being.
