Title: Amiga Flame special report on PDA Gaming
Post by: System on June 16, 2002, 10:04:37 PM
Philip Cosby of Amiga Flame (http://www.amigaflame.demon.co.uk) has had a few sneaking suspicions about the future of Amiga Anywhere content in an already cut-throat world full of WindowsCE and Palm software for a long time.  In this special report, he goes a long way in rationally sending up the warning flags up for all the Amiga content developers that, “they will be disappointed if they expect yet another puzzle game with brightly coloured jewels forming patterns on the screen to make them rich”.

Why arent amiga developer taking advantage of DE and produce some outstanding 3d content???

DE has been out for a while 3d API also seem to ready!!!

Why on earth isn't anybody doing 3d content instead of 40 versions of tetris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

start now or forget amiga DE having a future. this a fiel where amiga can venture in a be king again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do it people do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I wanted to play games on a PDA I would like to play 2D puzzle or platform games. For other games I would use a console or a PC.

I bet more people play puzzle games than Doom on their GBA for example.

puzzle games are fun but as technology advances
we will come to a point where pda games and pc games are one and the same. for example take pc inssatll it into handheld pda and play it or vice versa.
DE is perfect but Amiga inc are way to passive it seems -nobody knows what exactly is happenig with it.

I have always been of the opinion, that business software is needed in the PDA market.
CRM-Software (Customer Relationship Management) or Database-Applications such as programs to create and store orders and bills.
I myself, if I start creating apps for AmigaDE, I will produce this kind of software.

hi all,

I agree with siciliano. We have to focus on business tools, without forgetting game market. A lot of companies needs  softwares for their new mobile terminals, sometimes in very particular areas where pda softwares companies are not yet present. For instance, in the field of water treatment, no tool exists to meet all needs of agents in stations. Another example, tools available for bar codes are not enough intuitive, or don't meet last standards.

Amiga was an excellent playstation, but too many people think that amiga was only a playstation. What a pity for Commodore business... A major marketing error. Amiga Inc and developpers should design some (simple, intuitive and *stable*)  business utilities + a new innovative game, if possible. A puzzle/tetris, it's quite ridiculous. And if I want to play Tetris, I buy a gameboy, not a pda.

Wow, that's amazing for a pocket PC!
I hope we see the success of both DE and AmigaOS in the near future. But as for the DE I don't know, Microsoft has too much marketing power, do you really think Amiga has a chance? Microsoft seems to be using AmigaDE as content provider, but so what, for how long? pah. At least AmigaOS has it's niche user base.
