Title: AmiDock for AmigaOS 4 - New information
Post by: GadgetMaster on June 03, 2002, 11:19:41 PM
A lot of users have questions about the new version of AmiDock that will be included with OS 4, especially regarding the differences between the OS 3.9 and the OS 4.0 version.

Here are the answers by Stefan Robl, the author of AmiDock:

Hmmm, no comments on this story yet?  Let me say
"awesome."  It's about time we had a quality dock
that isn't a knock-off from some other OS.  I liked
the 3.9 Amidock, but it was always a little too
cumbersome.

I have AOS 3.9, but have always use Tool Manager and thus never tried AmiDock. Is there any reason I should? Does AmiDock support drag and drop the way Tool Master does (ie if I drop a pic on my CyberShow icon and  will it display)?

This new one sounds pretty nice, though. Perhaps it will convince me to switch.

Sweet, i might see if i can make a docky for AmigaOS4. It'll be an alarm, because ive wanted on on this PC for ages :).

This would allow me to use my computer for my alarm. :) Set it next to my bed!!!

It also sounds like a good starter app to write, since i havnt coded for the Amiga before :) - I dont see why it would be difficult.

it already exists :-)
I had something like that alarm clock set up with my amiga years ago using crontask (or something) and an infrared controler  so it would play a sample a few times (through  speakers) then switch on the amplifier and tv , switch to a program that started at that time and after a half hour or so switch everything back off so i wouldnt have to get out of bed. It even switched on the lights in my room (infrared controlled lightswitch).
the cron program sent some arexx commands to the infrared controller, both can be found on aminet.
This was wen my amiga was still in its desktop case and made no noise at all (no fans and hdmotor switched off)

I wouldn't mind a knock-off from gkrellm (http://web.wt.net/~billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.html) on linux. It has some very nice and space saving features like volume control and mp3 player buttons.
Sounds like the docky thing could very well be used for it :-)

That might be a little out of my league... Think ill just start with a warning and what time it is... E.g "The time is 3:00pm"...

:)

If i get that going, ill c if i can get it to turn the shower on, turn the heater on for the lounge room when im in the shower, chech when i get out of the shower, then turn shower off, then turn the tele to channel 2 (actualy channel 9 but its on 2) and at the same time, pour my nutrigrain into a bowl with orange juice get my cloths ready for work and when im walking out the door, unlock the car, turn it on, wipe the windscreen to get the frost off it and put the heater on!!!

Of course, i may have run down to me local hardware store to get the neccessary parts for all the robotics that'll be needed!!!

Not to mention a new car with a lot of customer made stuff :). Then i could sell it as a complete solution for "waking up". :) wow!!!
