Title: Jarno van der Linden from Amiga Inc., Interviewed!
Post by: arcwave on May 03, 2002, 02:17:19 PM
Jarno van der Linden, one of the brilliant minds behind Amiga DE, has taken time to be interviewed by the GetBoinged! crew.

Read the interview (http://www.getboinged.org/roundup.asp?A=118)

Liked the screenshots...
And the interview discloses some facts about ACM, but where it is ??? Specifications ???
But I don't think i will bring any enhancements over .NET... hmm notice, that Fleecy talked about ACM two years ago, but it was never diclosed ..maybe for the lack of interest... and maybe because it lacks some features ??

This was a nice interview and most encouraging.

I worked 10 years at a big name university in the northeast section of the US.  The main
product there was, and still is,  Phd’s.  These students were (are) almost always on the
cutting edge of what’s going on in their particular field.

So this is very good news to have Jarno on board for AmgaInc.  and I liked the screen shots too!

I can't help but comment.  Jarno seems like he's got his sh*t together and this restores some faith for me in DE.  Seeing screenshots like that show good progress and the sort of things I want to see..

Things are defo looking up

Yeah !!

Why on earth do we have to rely on third party interviews. This sort of stuff should be presented on an official website as a progress update.

I am sure there would be less rumour mongering, whingeing and bickering if everyone just knew what was going on.

It doesn't hurt to help keep our spirits up once in a while.

Nice interview... We havn't heard much news about AmigaDE/Anywhere lately so this update was nice.

The screenshots where OK but nothing special. If the GUI is skinnable thats great.

This part didn't sound to good though...

""Don't wait for the official Amiga APIs to be released. What is there already in intent/elate (I can never remember what name refers to what)
is quite sufficient to make any application you like, and it's not going to disappear. Sure, it may take a bit more work than you're used to. So did writing an app on Amigas before Workbench 2. Don't sit
around hoping that Amiga will do all the hard work for you. We're busy enough already playing table soccer.""

As far as I know lots of programmers have complained about the lack of sound and graphics API's. Sounds like they are quite far from a finished/usable state??

Anyway, people at Amiga... keep up the good work!

The second. ACM is a huge task, not something that gets completed in a short time

I don't see why that is bad Troels_E.

Why is it bad to encourage more Amiga coders to code for Amiga DE?

Besides he was asked a question.......

Hi Housey
Sorry, guess I didn't make myself clear.

It's nice that he encourages coders to code for Amiga-Anywhere (as I think it's officially called now?).

What I thought didn't sound that good was that he made it look like the new Api's where far away from public release.

According to many developers the SDK is lacking a lot of stuff. It's possible to get some of it after signing Nda/Sda's.. but the SDK really need that _promised_ update so more people would be interested.
