AFUA, a French Amiga user group visited the Thendic-France crew and wrote a report (http://home.t-online.de/home/amiga-news/index-e.html) and made some pictures.

That Eclipsis project seems very interesting.

Hrmmm, i wonder though, if the eclipse isnt com'n out till 2003, does this mean we wont see the pegasos or MOS till 2003? That is, are they concentrating all their efforts on the eclipse? Or will there be a desktop MOS and an Eclipse MOS?
Apple sued , or attempted to sue various persons over theme development of their GUILook... Could Amiga Inc do the same here? It seems that MOS is using very similar stuff... Infact, it was running workbench. They wouldnt be able to package workbench with MOS unless they were paying Amiga Inc contributions right? But as i understand it, they're totaly rewriting it, right?!!!

Pegasos will be out 1st of June and by than MorphOS
will include a full Workbench-replacement.
At least thats their plan.

um, was I suppost to be impressed?

They would most probably have to change the GUI elements to something other than the standard AmigaOS look. They also have to worry about unintentional deception. If someone thinks they are getting AmigaOS, they could have a problem. If MOS requires AmigaOS component in any way they would need a licence.
Now if, as stated, they write something that does everything that AmigaOS does and runs Amiga programs, they will probably be fine. It would be like the cloning of the PC BIOS that gave us the IBM compatable or of the cloning MAC BIOS that gave us the short lived MAC clone market.
Now if they have seen any of the AmigaOS source code, as Mr. Schmidt has stated he did, then they could have all sorts of problems.
Whoops... I am corrected. That should be Apple BIOS not Mac ROM. Franklin got sued by Apple over it's clones.

shame on you Rodney! amiga inc. should not do somthing like that!

An aside, but the Mac ROMs were never "cloned" in the short-lived PowerPC 'clone' era. Rather, Apple opened their specifications, and basically gave everyone a license to a reference ROM. Thus, when Apple chose to reneg on their contracts and rescind such licensing, the clonemakers were forced to close up shop. (Presumably companies like Pios could've taken Apple to court over breach of contract- I assume someone must've- but as we can see, it would've been hard to get a ruling that would keep Apple from 'breaking' future OSes from running on the hardware, and apparently no one did.)
As all the alternative manufacturers were 'tainted' from their contact with the Apple intellectual property, none of them could step forward with a "clean-room" implementation- something Compaq took great pains to achieve in producing the first IBM clone.
I recall one 68k Mac emulator (for OS/2, no less) that stepped around the ROMs entirely by simply emulating/translating the entire MacOS API (not unlike the "Project Odin" for Win32 compatibility, but with an added element of 680x0 emulation). There was also a short-lived 680x0 Mac laptop made by "Kangaroo Computers;" I assume they were also licensing their ROMs from Apple.
Now, this all relates to the Amiga vs. MorphOS case in that there is a (potentially unanswerable) question as to the 'cleanliness' of some of MorphOS's implementation. If they got their code through AROS, they're clean; if they saw some AmigaOS source through H&P, they aren't. Whether recycling of binary elements from AmigaOS during testing (as the icons demonstrate, if not the Workbench) constitutes fair use is another interesting debate.

Hello,
> um, was I suppost to be impressed?
Of course not. It's an old Pegasos version with an old MorphOS version with lot of debugging stuff. So you have to relativise a little and try to imagine what it'll be with a better GUI and no debugging ;-)
Even with the debug it run really fast and I'm very impatient to see the final retail version of both Pegasos and MorphOS and then I'm sure i'll be impressed and you'll be too ;-)
I may also be impressed by AmigaOS 4.0 when it come to the market, but it'll come later so i'll be first impressed by MorphOS ;-)
Bye

Yer, i wasnt that impressed either. I hope MOS does end up com'n together. Although, it seems its got a long way to go. Although, we didnt see a lot of it. But maybes theres not much to show?
Im surprised they showed the pic of doom or, was it quake?, run'n with debuging options compiled in or whatever it was. You'd think if it wasnt running properly, they wouldnt show it. That doesnt put faith in my mind when i see this. I mean, if i new something wasnt going to look that great, i wouldnt "show it off". This makes me wonder, was there infact really anything wrong with it?

I didnt say it was right :) - anyway, i dont think it'll be possible. Theres not going to be any "One" look for AmigaOS. There'll prolly be some defualt themes, but i dont think you could sue people for having the same themes.. But copying the images you could! :)

You could see the MorphOS running on Pegasos in
November 2001 in Cologne. You could see the JIT,
you saw PPC native software. You can test v0.4
since one and a half year youself.
You will see more on M-Day(tm) :)
