According to the AmigaActive ML, 'Digital' magazine, the last remnant of the old 'Amiga Active' magazine, has joined its predecessor in oblivion.

This is sad. While "digital" didn't interest me in the slightest, the editorial team represent a long tradition of quality writing in the big Amiga magazines.
I wish them all the best for the future.
-
While I wished them the best of luck, I knew this would be a failure.
Good luck to them in future ventures.
-
well.. its hardly a surprise.
and no, i don`t think digital convergence is part of our lives. its something forcefed through a lot of means - but the fact is technology just ain`t that great afterall.
oo oo my microwave can send my email - yippy bumping yah
the only people slightly interested in that kinda crap is people seriously into computers - thus they ain`t likely to go buying a device just cos it can talk to the TV, the fridge, etc and so on.
just face it - everything works best when it isn`t compatible with everything else.
Amiga did it for long enough

Bloody typo... Of course I meant "Amiga Active ML",
not "AmigaONE ML". The link is correct anyways... I
thought those news items were moderated in some way?
Moderators! You cannot assume WE should proofread news
ourselves!

100%AMIGA is also still going and is the only monthly Amiga CD magazine in the World (unless somebody knows different). You don't need to just read it: you can see it, hear it and experience it. More information..Amiga Online Superstore (http://www.forematt.co.uk)

A shame :-( I was looking forward to more of their Tao coverage and tutorials.
However like a few people mentioned on the mailing list they were either too late making the switch or not interesting enough readership. Actually seems theres an argument about which of these two points is true. Probably a bit of both. I think they might have been better off going for more of a "cool gadget mag" style like T3. (Is T3 the mag Im thinking of here?)

Sad, but true. In seeking to keep their Amiga readers but broaden their audience base, they lost most of their old Amiga readers and gained ... Nothing, I'm afraid.
Someone might use this to argue that Amiga people are narrow-minded and obsessed, which may be true, but the fact is it usually happens this way when some successful (I mean content-wise, here, not profitability) something decides to change direction abruptly, even if the new product is much better (Remember "New Coke?")
Good luck to all you chappies. And thanks for years of great times.

I knew they were going down when they started putting all that scantily clad tail on the cover in the past couple of issues. While Jeri and I, of course, loved it, nevertheless it was an obvious...ermm...swan song, if you'll pardon the expression.
Cheers,
Courtney

Well what can I say, they should have staied with the Amiga. Of cource it's sad that they have gone away, mainly becuase they brought Amiga-news to non-amigausers.
But instead of changing their name, they should lower the price a little, so that more people had the money to buy it, because let's face it, Amiga magz are way more expensive than PC, Playstation and Nintendio magz. :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x

Has anyone been able to contact them about subscriptions?
I renewed my subscription to AmigActive magazine late in October last year, for 1 year at a cost of £55.90.
I received issue 25, and issue 26 (3 weeks late, after having had to email them about it).
Then they changed to digital. I was told my subscription had been transferred and that I would receive more issues of digital than I would have AA to make up the price difference.
Well, I never did. In fact, I have never received ANY issues of digital. I have been in contact with them via email several times since late January to try to cancel my subscription, but haven't been able to so far.
I have tried calling them today (on 01202 411 111) but no-one seems to be answering.
At £27.95 each, those are some pretty expensive issues of AA I bought. Hope I can get some of my money back.... :-x

The reason the other mags were cheaper is because they sold to a larger base, meaning they got bigger ecnomies of scale and more income from advertising. We were paying the price for being a minority!

I'd like to see this rag in the States, but because of the likes of AF and CA who stiffed me with remaining subscriptions of bogus writes and refund checks that would cost more to cash in than it's net worth, I've a bad taste in my mouth to even subscribe to the mag (AA was available from a local vendor, & I'd buy my copies at the monthly User Group meetings).
-
Has anyone else noticed the price hike of PC magazines. PC Format & PC Plus cost £5.99 for the CD edition and 6.49 (I think) for the DVD edition. I miss the old days when I could afford all three Spectrum magazines and still have 50p left for sweets.
Of course, before I age further, I would like to point out that my Internet bills have dropped since the early days. Progress is useful for something.
-
I'm surprised it lasted so long. Killing the Amiga magazine to launch Digital pissed off a lot of Amiga users I know... and then Pin Print hoped that the Amiga Active readers would make the switch to Digital... jesus, how stupid are some people?
Digital Convergence will happen eventually, but it'll be one of those silent types fo invention, like SCART was over RF/Co-axial... nobody will suddenly go "Oh JESUS CHRIST i've gotta be convergent!" it'll just be like "oh, my new fridge/freezer/microwave/tv/dvd/mobile phone/curtain rail/hi-fi is digital convergent (tm by me!)... great."
And anybody over who was happy with how things were before won't give a $#@!, I own the only two scart cables in my house... and with four tv sets, three videos, three hifis and one dvd player... thats quite a lot of co ax being used.

Time will show that these guys were right on the mark.
We are aready seeing it in products like PcEphone &
Pongo-Tech.
I suspect there early demise was due to the ADK on
Issue 4 without legal liecensing, Your Thoughts ?
T3 & STUFF are 2 very popular mags that prove the
format is a popular one.
