Title: SWAUG Interview with Ben Hermans of Hyperion
Post by: Argo on April 02, 2002, 12:41:42 PM
"For those of you don't know, Hyperion is the company contracted by Amiga,Inc. to produce the next Amiga Operating System, version 4.0. Ben Hermans is a Managing Partner for Hyperion.

Following hot on the heels of Hyperion's Q&A session with the show visitors of Amiga Expo 2002, we decided to further question Ben Hermans on a few areas surrounding OS 4.0.

This is what he had to say.."

The interview can be found on the SWAUG swebsite. (http://www.swaug.freeserve.co.uk/interview010402.html)

I did not know that Haage&Partner did not gave Hyperion acces to the OS3.9 source code. Why not?

Maybe they work together with bplan  ;-)

SCNR.

Well H&P for example requested a 68k

Apparently Hyperion didnt want the responsibility for OS 4.0

Too much finacial risk.

That last post about H&P not wanting to produce OS 4.0 for financial reasons was me.

Didnt realise that I wasnt logged on - sorry.

In fact - I just realised I wrote Hyperion as not wanting to produce it. I meant H&P... sorry

Well they mention FFS2, and SFS as being supported by OS4. I'm in high hopes that PFS3 will not break. I have used PFS since it was AFS and you couldn't pay me to ever use any version of FFS again in my life. I also prefer PFS3 to SFS. I wish they would have made PFS3 the default file system for the new OS. :/

It is completely backward compatible with FFS,  it's very fast and tough as nails. I don't know if it is even being developed any more. I haven't been able to get on the website for quite some time. Amiga should have tried to buy it or liscense it, instead of making what is probably a new incarnation of constant invalidations, checksum errors and repairs! :/

I really, really like PFS3 and hopefully the new OS will continue to function properly in the new OS. There are alot of people who use it
and don't want to give it up! :)
