Hoping to change the face of game development, Sun Microsystems is releasing their plans for doing so at this year's GDC.

If you put money on it then you would be very misguided.

As much as i am an optimist, Java is very well established, and an industry standard. The majority of students learn object orientated programming in Java these days, how many students or professionals know VP code...????

This new Java thing is something I heard before. Your right, Java is well known. But I think AmigaDE would be fit in this picture very well. Amiga is working behind the scenes like a killer machine. :-D

Funny, AMIGA DE / INTENT was displayed at JAVAONE expo. I hope he "Forget" about AMIGA DE, similar to Jobs' statement about the first SMP PowerPC box in the world from Apple! :)

There is a static translator from Java Bytecode to VP Bytecode that convert Java Class to VP object.

It would be great to buy a game and run it on all of your hardware/os but still, will it in the end really take advantage of custom hardware that you bought for your platform, or will all games just kind of level out and perform more or less equally on all platforms, not processorwise but feature specifik, will this technology hamper the advancement in hardware that we see today ?? Only time will tell i guess... great stuff anyway..
