Hi,
finally got the amitcp running, but now i would like to do the file-sharing thing. While reading some samba docs like this (http://www.dynamix.plus.com/siamese/samba_jc.htm) one, its telling me ::
Samba is a Server application that can be used instead of a NFS Server package, but Samba only allows connections from Windows systems
Please, don't tell me I need a windows machine in my network for some decent filesharing, cause i really DON'T want to....
Thanks in advance,
P

No, you don't _need_ a Win-DOHS machine. You can run Samba on whatever machine you want to share files from. Then on the other Amiga, you can mount and use SMBFS to get at the files on the Amiga running Samba. I do this all the time on my Amigas at home. In fact, they're all running as servers so any machine can access any other machine.

If you only have Amigas on the network, you should really go for Envoy instead of Samba. Envoy was the 'official' Amiga filesharing system, and its dead easy to install and use. It'll share all your drives and printers to other Amigas.
I *think* its still available from Vesalia or Schatztruhe or so, but if you want to order it from your country, ask your local Amiga dealer. They may have old stock, or be able to import it for you.

I use the Sambaserver that came with the X-Surf Card...
Very easy to configure...

Samba is an implementation of Microsoft's SMB (now called CIFS) networking protocol, that's all it means.

I have a feeling this envoy doesn't support smb shares, so it won't be able to share files with the ppclinux/A1, right??
Thanks anyhow,

Uhhh... no. Thats why I said "only Amigas"... its for AmigaOS :-)
I would really love to see Envoy updated and re-released for OS4 though. That would rock.
