IBM has announced (http://www.rs6000.ibm.com/resource/technology/nstar.html) new 64 Bit PowerPC CPU called NORTHSTAR.
The CPU will be used on the IBM RS/6000 and AS/400 machines.
Next year they will release 64 Bit PowerPC CPU (http://www.ebnews.com/digest/story/OEG19990219S0044) based on "Silicon On Chip" technology.
