Title: Installing System 7.5 with Fusion
Post by: dandelion on September 23, 2003, 04:06:23 PM
I have an Amiga 4000/040, Fusion and the 512k Mac rom file. I'd like to get a working Mac environment up and running but an not sure of the best way to install System 7.5. I have access to iMacs and older PowerMacs if that would any help.

I have downloaded the System 7.5 disk images, which I have extracted on an iMac to the point where I think I have accessed the actual files as they would appear on a floppy disk. What would be the best way to use these files to install the operating system? I have a high density floppy drive so I know this makes things a little easier, but do I need to get hold of CrossMac? Or could I simply get away with PC formatted disks? I presume I would insert the first install disk when it's sitting at the grey question mark-disk after booting Fusion?

Hi, this may not be the answer you want.. but..

I'd recomend you use Basillisk II instead of Fusion. It's much better and it's free.

Amiga Format had system 7.5 on an AFCD as a fusion hardfile already set up.  It was a case of just selecting the hardfile in the prefs to get it running.  Perhaps someone on here has that AFCD in question and can pass on that file (I gather that it is freely distributable)

I agree. Basilisk II is a very good Mac emu. I have heard that it was a little slow compared to the others, well it did on AGA, but it now flies on my Blizzardvision! :-) Shapeshifter as well is a good Mac emu. Get both! I have never tried Fushion but i have heard it is the best/fastest out there, if a little hard to setup perhaps.

@dandelion

This maybe a cheap answer to your question but....

I have a Hardfile that you can download that has system 7.5.5 installed on it, i think that would be legal cos it was given away for free. Anyway, if you are interested, then don't hesitate to email or PM me and i'll get back to you! :-)

PS: Where  can i get the Mac version of Microsoft office (or Word!) from that would work on system 7.5.5.

Thanks,

basilisk2 iscrap on amiga .

use shapeshifter! and or fusion , i can't get fusion to work here for some weird reason.

aanyway generate a hardfile on your mac, thats the best ...or write the system to a cd and boot from cd using shapeshifter (free on aminet) ..

cheers

@lempkee,

Now come on! Basilisk II ain't THAT BAD! :-) lol
Someone did say to me that Basilisk II was indeed slower than the others (Shapeshifter and Fushion) because it was ported to many systems under the C language or something.

I guess it's true that if you want maximum speed on AGA then use Shapeshifter or Fusion. But, cos i own a graphics card, i don't get effected as mush when i use Basilisk II. I have just got Shapeshifter up and running however so i may give that one a try out. Wasn't Fusion given away for free? Where can i get it from?

Cheers!

@lempkee,

Sounds impressive! I must try out Shapeshifter sooner.

@dandelion,

I have email you the link to download that hardfile that you wanted. Hope that helps. Enjoy! :-)

@Anyone,

Where can i get Microsoft Office for Mac (or even just word) that would work on system 7.5.5. I dont care how, donwloads, or pay money to someone who doesn't need it, etc!

I have MacOS 8 in a A3000/040 with 64MB of RAM in it's own partition, but with a 1MB Mac ROM.

You might want to give 8 a go, it's much faster than you might think....
