Check that! , its a real 9pins psx compatible adapter!!
ie you dont need psxport and its lame lib running etc , this should work on every damn game and heh check the part where it says "analog joysticks also working" , only 2-3 games on amiga atm support that with psx port!
cheers
-
forgot to say its ONLY $15 USD!
-
The PSX joypad has more buttons than the CD32 one. psxport.device allows you to use them all. No converter can do that.
-
kennyr: LOL , i have a psx-port here so please explain! .. first of all you need the specific library INSTALLED , ie so if you use whdload etc PSX PORT Will not WORK! .
THIS ONE WILL!
this is a ADapTer for ALL games , 2 to 6 button games. , and as a last note tell me about 1 game that needs more than 6 buttons on amiga :)
i play quake,quake2,freespace etc on my psx-port , it maps 6 BUTTONS + 2 exra if u use aux7-8.

hehe, if you quake with joystick use a thrustmaster at least, lol :)
just jokin...
on psxport you could load a lowlevel.library replacement or something, which worked fine for me, dunno if it could be made memoryresident tho.
btw, these push entermainment demos rule =)
-
That's one very cool looking device!
What would be nice, is if those 'analogue' controls actually worked like paddles, or mouse emulation, or somthing better.
-
Why buy a converter? I've played around with a few joypads and converted them to the Amiga... it's simple and doesn't require a converter though need right cable and a bit of solderings and a few parts once in a while. My latest project is still in it's prebuild state but include a PS controller and 2 9DS plugs so I can use the pad both as a 3 button digital and possibly analog joypad with autofire option aswell as a 3 button mouse. An all in one option realy but as said it's not been built yet and I'm sure to run into a few problems creating this one. :-D
-
@Brian
Some people just don't understand electronics, do they?
;-)
-
@ iamaboringperson
Affirmative :-D
-
You can use the analougue sticks as a DPAD! thats the cool thing with it! ..on psx port u can't!
with this adapted you can play superfrog with the STICKS on your psx controller.
and there is versions for neogeo , saturn , snes ,nes etc...
please! before u guys start talking about making your own etc , read the specs and check the screenshots!
sure you can hack one to work , i have done it .. but this adapter is so much cooler ... (since it actually is just plug and play and you can play without using a lame cd32 pad (dpad on it suxx) .
psx port is good for games designed for it , but still analouge doesnt work in payback for instance... with this adapter IT DOES!..
cheers
-
This is cool, using the analog sticks instead
of d-pads. 15 bucks is a good price considering
the crappy psx port is like 50 bucks if
you can find it.
So is the "Genesis" version the one I want to
buy? They seem to have a few different ones on
there with "DB-9" style connectors, is the
Genesis pad similar to the CD32/Amiga
controllers?
-
Ok I did some checking and ordered the right
one, I'll let y'all know how it works...although
it may take a while, since it ships from
Hong Kong and I opted for cheap shipping..:/
-
The genesis pad registers as a 2 button joypad in the Amiga without any modding, my pad had a dirty connector for the 3rd button though so might actually work as a 3 button one, not sure. Anyway I ripped out the IC and resistors inside and connected the whires directly as the Amiga wants it and then added autofire to the start button aswell. After removing all SEGA text and logos from it this is now a pritty sweet joypad to use. :-D
-
-D-:
yeah its the genesis / mastersystem one u want to buy , i ordered myself aswell...
cheers
-
brian:well i dont recall about the genesis/MD but as far as MasterSystem goes it should be identical to any amiga, weird that they didnt force 2button controllers/pads onto amiga like they did on consoles
i really dont remeber the 6 buttons on the Genesis , same as saturn ???
-
Genesis was the name for Megadrive in Far East (and possibly also US(?))

Yep, Genesis was what they called it in the US as well... who knows why...
-

The 6 button controller for the Genesis was introduced back when Street Fighter II was all the rage. Back then a lot of systems started to get 6 button controllers as soon as Street Fighter II was ported to their systems: PC Engine, Genesis. Other systems had controllers were buttons were moved to a more appropriate postition for playing SFII (3D0 and SNES got their shoulder buttons repositioned as face buttons, etc.)
I don't think that the 6 button Genesis controller matches the 6-button CD32 pad button configuration. I've got both, so I guess I can try it out if anyone is curious.
-
please try it on your cd32 with cd32 games that support more than 2 buttons!
thanx
-
Well this POS adapter arrived today and it
doesn't work AT ALL on the amiga...go figure :(
There must be a significant difference somewhere
in the pinouts between amiga/genesis...I'm
looking into it, hopefully not $20 out the
window.
-
OK...the pinouts are similar, but the major
difference is that pin 5 on the genesis is
+5V, whereas this is pin 7 on the amiga. I'm
thinking swapping the lines should fix it.
-
...and indeed it did. Simply peel back the
sticker, open the case, swap the RED and
the YELLOW wires, and voila. This will give you
analog as a d-pad and two fire buttons which
do the same thing...more to come when I figure
out how to get it CD32 compatible.
-
It seems the CD32 pad has special circuitry, so
this adapter is not CD32 compatibile, at least
not with my limited skills.
If anyone else ordered this thing (lempkee?)
here's what I found to get it operational as
a two button joystick:
open the case
remove RED and YELLOW wires from their pads
(wires at VCC and SEL)
solder the RED wire in place of the YELLOW
(RED to VCC)
attatch a jumper wire on the board from SEL
to VCC (important, otherwise the controller
will act erratic)
if you want, build a solder pad on the board at
SP4, and hook up the YELLOW wire, this will
give square on PS pad as mouse button 3
(probably useless)
So there ya have it...despite not working
as a CD32 pad, the analogs and "rapid
fire" make it somewhat an interesting waste
of time..:)
-
Genesis was the name for Megadrive in Far East (and possibly also US(?))
Just for the record, I think the Genesis name was only for the North American market (I don't know about South America).
In the Far East it was called the Mega Drive.
For some reason many platforms felt the need to rename themselves when entering the U.S. market. Turbografx instead of PC-Engine and so on.

-D-: i owe you a beer , see you at a show soon :D
btw i think i am in love..... lol
LOVE IS IN THE AIR..... damtamtaaaaaaa :P
hehe
ok errm..you made me abit happy :D thats all , i will do this RIGHT away...
cheers
pps:i only need 2 buttons for now anyway :D
-
-D: whats an Jumper cable ? , u mean a crossing ? , ie connected to 2 points at same time? ... oh btw i aint a hw engineer ;D
cheers

LOL, no prob. Thanks for posting about it in the
first place, it's fun as hell with the analogs!
Especially with older stuff like XP8 and Roadkill.

Just a small regular wire from VCC to SEL will do
fine. Apparently SEL needs +5v or the controller will
do all sorts of weird things. Found that one out by
blind luck, actually. :)
-D-
-
didnt take long , all ok now...
i have 2 buttons + analogue controllers working + DPAD (prefer the analouge sticks ofcourse)
all i did was..
i cutted the yellow cable as high as possible from the board , attached yellow cable (which is still attached to the board onto the red wire. )
no soldering needed :D
for now ...
THANX for all help -D-
cheers
-
lempkee:
Ah, right on! Just moving the one wire is the
same thing only better and easier (now why
couldn't I think of that!!) :)
Latron,
-D-
-
typical when u dont have resources to play with ..like cables :D
sweet i am so happy now!!! yummy!
btw games that require more buttons uses O as START/PAUSE , also a friend said he had to use L2 + O in one game for something....
weird :D but still awesome..
...
to all: BUY IT! , i will let the producer of this thingy know! what we had to do to make it work so i guess he can deliver em out as amiga ready ...if thats so!!
cheers

Hey,
Yeah, it's great that it now works. I was very hyped up when I found that converter weeks ago.
I can now play all my Amiga games with my PSX/2 controller. Projext-X, Apidya & many more are now pure joy to play!
Most CD32 games, unless option for 2-button controller, won't work. Maybe there's some other fixing that can be done, and the vupti, cd32 buttons work :)
But maybe we can influence the company who made these. I'm in contact with them at least.
Be warned though, lempkee has somehow maybe burned his off. Still experimented with the reason behind :)
Now, Amigans can finally choice from a variety of controllers! X-Box, PS2, N64, Dreamcast, GameCube, all can now be used on Amiga via the PSX connection + appropiate ADAPTOR!
Now this is the Amiga gadget of the year!
Thanks for your fix!

Is this true? You mean I could play sensi soccer with my gamecube pad? Has anybody tried this yet? Where would you get the Camecube->Ps adaptor from?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm getting a bit excited about this!!!
-
dood , check the first LINK i gave here , in FIRST POST.
and yes it works fine , mine works again also now, just needed to fit the cables better..
all ok..
and yes i play sensi soccer with ps2 pad , with the analougue sticks.
cheers
-
Hello,
Well, I expect a variety of adaptors available to Playstation owners who want to use other input pads than org. PSX. I'm currently searching for them, and will report when and IF i find them...
I would be very suprised if my search comes out negative...
cheers,
Haymigga
-
haynigga: make me an avatar , yours is so sweet :D , i love the duck (donk) ...btw works fine that game with psx pad :D
povl:VER SÅ SNILL!!!! :D
-
Seems as if I was wrong, I can't seem to find any way to use those other competing products on Playstation, though there's a variety of adaptors that allow PSX controllers on almost anything, but apparently not the other way. Maybe some licensing problem... don't know.
Damn, but still PSX controllers are still the best so...I got no beef with that...
-
Wow! Easy tiger! I did check the link and saw that it was for a Playstation controller. I was wondering if anybody had used a Gamcube->Playstation adaptor and seen if it was working. Like the other guy mentioned, there doesn't seem to be any controllers to playstation adaptors, just the other way about. A pity. A real pity. I just sooo want to play Sensi Soccer with my gamecube pad!
-
We should try to post in some Playstation-user forums...
-
Tried the tototek adapters as i could'nt get any other psx-to-db 9 adapters (kipper2k,amigamaniacs) to work with my x-arcade tankstick (with 5-in-1 ps2 adapters). And it finally worked!!! :elvis:
What i did:
As described in this thread, I only removed the SEL and VCC and soldered the SEL at VCC. Dunno, it works at least!!! The cables had other colors for me than what's describe earlier in this thread. I didn't do the jumper solder yet, and havn't noticed anything erratic yet.
Note: the adapters mentioned besides tototek works excellent with everything else i threw at them, ps2 adapterwise, so buy them instead if you don't have a x-arcade. That way, you don't have to solder and stuff, you support amiga development, and they are very well crafted.
-
I have the Kipper2K adapter... I have not had much chance to use it other than 20 minutes of Shadow of The Beast 3...
It was 19 beaver bucks.
I was still not able to get any further than i was with the CD32 controller. I really like the stock CD32 controller.
i don't know how it compares...

oH boy! this is what EVERY gamer wants for their Amiga + Cd32
Not every gamer wants this. I for one wants a good arcade stick :D
-
Me too, but there are a lot of good arcade sticks for consoles.
-
Holy thread necromancy, Batman! For a moment I thought KennyR was back.
-
I had read over two pages before I realised thread was 9 years old

That's older than my mental age :-/
-
the playstation controller is also the worst "modern" controller of the bunch
I'd prefer a Gamecube controller. I have a GC Controller->USB adapter and it works great on my PC.
-

Sure, but something like an X Arcade with a Playstation adapter would cost 150 dollars, and then you'd have to buy the converter as well :(
