Title: WinUAE and YAM
Post by: mgerics on September 19, 2003, 07:12:20 PM
I'm running latest WinUAE and YAM on a windoesn't box. Yam fires up, and sends user name and password, but locks up on 'getting statistics'. Other TCP software works ok. I had a machine with Cloanto's Amiga Forever version 4, and Yam worked fine on that.
I have run a new install of Yam and a copy of the Yam installation that ran on the Cloanto powered machine (it is also the same Yam I run on my native A4000) and I get the same results.
    Any ideas ? Thanks!

YAM over WinUAE on my machine takes ages "getting statistics" too, though it doesn't lock up.  Little or no internet traffic happens at that point either.

YAM can do this even on a real Amiga, especially on slower connections like 56k modems. YAM is quite stupid when it comes to this requester - cancel never works in these deadlocks.

Have you tried a more recent version of WinUAE? Older versions had badly bugged netbsd.library emulation.

@ KennyR

latest versions of YAM and WinUAE here.

I am on a modem connection as well though.

It seems to lock up (no internet traffic) on the club24 email server but never the ntl one.

For a minor fix tell Yam to download emails straight away, it seems to solve the problem here.

My suggestion is to try a different emailer.  MicroDot or Simplemail are both good; MicroDot is shareware and Simplemail is freeware.

I have never had any luck with YAM, myself.

I'm rather a fan of YAM, although it does have it quirks (sp?). The non-responding requester is indeed one of them. As is the instability, although it seems to be rather stable now with the latest releases. :-).

MicroDot II all the way.

Although I haven't seen an update for a while (busy on MorphOS stuff?)

btw what is the e-mail client with MOS?

MOS has no bundled mail client, but most folks use a native MOS compile of YAM, which is very stable.

Blah. Simple mail downloaded all my email fine, but will NOT send any messages.  Rats! :-?
