Hey guys, I have a few questions for all you fellow cable modem users out there. I have my A3000 connected to a switch with my PC and cable modem to get online. I have problems with my Amiga loosing the connection all the time and decided to go the router route. Can anyone tell me the proper setting in the router to get it all working? I am using a linksys router.

Personally, I have my wireless/wired Linksys set like this.
Static IP for Amiga
Netmask- 255.255.255.0
(Router IP) -Gateway usually 192.168.1.1
I have found this works so much better than putting Miami at DHCP on all of the above...
But then there is more than one way to skin a cat..

Now if I would just get Samba working for the Amiga...
Our two PCs, the Amiga One , iMac and Amiga 4000 Mega Tower could talk to one another...
Maybe a good project for our next User Group meeting coming up next Saturday.....

Can you give me some more info? Whats the best way to input all the stuff into MiamiDX? Ect??? I guess I am asking for all the numbers. I am using DHCP mode now and have loads of problems.

I've been having problems with my Router too... ever since I pluged it into my Hub...
The machines will all DHCP fine, and everything works fine. But then, randomly, after a random period of time, it will stop responidng to any of them and they will all stop working. :-(

Erm with my router/cable modem/amiga(s) combination I have not had any problems ... yet!
both the A1 and A1200 are setup to use DHCP. I even connect up the girlfriends XP Laptop as well, although soon I will get her a wireless PCMCIA card so that it can work with the wireless aspect of my router :-)

yes, dhcp is rarely very stable, not allways working correctly on windoze either.... Static ip works much better.

does the router have nat/ip and 1 ip out ?
use static! ip , in my case 10.0.0.2 , netmask 255.255.255.0 (some systems needs 255.0.0.0)
gatweway should be the same as your router gateway in my case 10.0.0.1 .
if i set dhcp then it will drop the connection alot!.

OK... I have:
* A4000 + Mediator + Realtek 8139, MiamiDx
* A1500 + AmigaNET Zorro II, MiamiDx
* AmigaONE XE G4
All attached to a D-Link 10/100 switch, which is attached to an AR-601 ADSL router. ALL 3 machines get their network info via DHCP from the router, and it all works great with no connection problems, or anything. It all just works great.
So... I don't think the problem is with MiamiDx and DHCP per se, but your individual setups.

MiamiDX has a few DHCP bugs. One is that it can't renew a permanent lease - it just quits and goes offline with an error message after 20 min or so. So configure your router to set its LAN DHCP lease to 2 weeks or so, if you can - anything but permanent. This bug is also the reason people can't stay online to some ISPs.
If you're using a router, you can safely drop DX. You won't need most of its features, and Miami doesn't have the DHCP bug.

Thats EXACTLY what it sounds like I am having problems with. I loose connection after about 20 mins, or even at times a matter of mins. I can never get the lease to renew. I wonder if I can turn up the time the lease gets checked on the linksys router I have? I get home in a month so I can fool with it all. I've never used a router before, but hear its the way to go.

You could try increasing the DHCP lease times. I use DHCP for my own network, no problems at all (not even a little bit! ;-) but then again all the PCs are Linux, hehe...
