Title: Amiga 2000 Concern
Post by: barney on May 26, 2009, 09:03:42 AM
Has anybody ever heard people go on and on about how sturdy and solid the Amiga 2000 is?  Well, this is true, but did anybody ever think that it may be too sturdy.  I believe the Amiga 2000 was built so heavy that it literally calapses the case under its own weight.  About 3/4 of all Amiga 2000's I see, the case is buckled and the motherboard is bowed.  Has anybody else come to this realization?  Just curious.

The Amiga 3000....now thats a sturdy computer!!!!!!!!

I have three "Military Spec" *cough* A1500s and they are all just fine! They seem pretty sturdy to me...

I never heard of the 1500.  Do you mean 2500?  What is the 1500 like?

A2000 w/o HD, instead 2 floppy drives (british mod?).

I've got 3 2000s, and none are buckling under their own weight :)

@Barney:

Yes, every A2000/A2500 I've seen within the past 10 years exhibits that same bowing you are talking about. I do not remember being aware of that attribute when they were first released, but I wouldn't be surprised that it's designed that way. It might make sense that when you place a CRT on her, she might straighten out a bit - I dunno. In any event, it doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

I believe some recommended a 5th foot be installed in the bottom middle of the case to add support...

The case is buckled?  Can you show us this problem with an image?  I have a few A2000 machines and none appears to have such an issue.
