I got mine at around June 1992 . I was 12 years old .
I was annoyed that my friends had Amiga's and i had a horrible Atari 65XE , so after bugging my parents , I finally got my dad to buy me an Amiga .
I still remember the day :-)
A brand new A500Plus Cartoon Classics pack (with Simpsons,Lemmings & Capt Planet) and a Commodore 1084S .
Never before (or since) had i been so happy with a computer :)

It was in my early teens. I'm 32 now, so the amiga was a fairly new thing in Norway.
I bought an amiga 500 from money I had earned babysitting the neighbours kids :-)

Around '85 my father brought home a macintosh. I was 5 at the time. I remember thinking it was pretty cool. Black and white, had a mouse, choppy graphics. I had the vic-20 to myself at the time i believe. That macintosh lasted a few days before it was returned. My dad brought home an amiga 1000. That machine blew that macintosh out of the water. Lots of colors, fast graphics, fun games.

Must have been the late 80's. Bought an A1000. I think I was in grade 10. Had a C=64 when I was in grade 8 I think it was. Got an A2000 when I got to university (still have it) and later an A500.

I already spilled my guts on my first (computer) love affair here on A.org (A1000 that my parents chipped in half for Christmas '87), BUT... what's ironic to koaftder's post is that my dad had a friend that was an Apple rep. Literally had a Volvo wagon jam packed with various Mac computers, accessories, etc. Anywho... in my teens, I had asked him to check out my new computer. It was an A500 with 1mb ram, a Perfect Sound digitiser, external DD and a 1084 monitor. Showed him a few demos, multitasking and such, how easy it was to digitise audio, the game Sinbad, etc. Needless to say, even though he was sort of a brainwashed Apple guy, he was VERY impressed with what he saw. I remember him taking the mouse and moving it around very quickly and getting a charge out of that. As if he expected the computer to crash or something. Or maybe he was impressed with the refresh rate of the display. I just remember thinking, WTF? lol 15khz is barbaric, but I've never, EVER seen smoother video displayed on ANY computer than the Amiga.

I received an Amiga 500 toward the end of 1987. Me and my friend at the time both had Apple IIe computers, which were "outdated" by the introduction of the Apple IIgs. He went with a IIgs for about $2000 at the time. I was able to pick up my Amiga 500 and a monitor for about $700. I also acquired software like "Deluxe Paint II" and "Instant Music", which were also available on the IIgs. I remember him complaining that I was able to use 32 colors compared to his 16, my games ran better with my 512KBs of memory compared to his base 256KBs, and I had the two button mouse, while he had to "Command-Click" for menu options in several applications. Who would have thought the computer that was a third of the price of the more expensive model would be the better choice?

Febuary of 1990, was an A500 with their educational package, which included, among other things ProWrite.
First game I played on it was Rick Dangerous. Bought the A1200 When Escom were selling them. Fantastic machine. Later got a CD32 and A3000.
By 2001 however it was clear to me that there was no future in it and switched to BeOS (hah, yeah, totally futureproofed myself there) in 2004 or so.
About 3 years ago I then moved on to Linux and haven't looked back.
But once in a while, at the dead of night, I get that itch.

Was looking to upgrade from the Speccy 128 in 1988, really liked the look of an Amiga but couldn't afford it so went for an ST, then after less than a year, the Amiga came down in price and I started to see more of what it could do, so got my first A500 just before Christmas 1989.

Having just been to a Thin Lizzy tribute gig and after several pints, it's probably best that I didn't reply to this, and go to bed instead, but what the hell...
I first got my own Amiga in 1995/6. Not a great time, I must say... but regardless of time, using the Amiga changed me forever (I'm sure some people understand what I mean)... (cue the corny comments), but it's true.
Years before that (around 1993 or so), I used to often stay over a friend's house and play on Dizzy, F1GP, Yo! Joe, Jet Strike, etc on their A600...
I was hooked...
I got an A1200 at the aforementioned time and continually upgraded with various bits of hardware (see signature) and lived under the delusion that the Amiga would do well once again in the modern age, under the helm of Bill and Fleecy... but to no avail ;)
For me, the Amiga plight ended when CU Amiga magazine went under. From then on, the Amiga has certainly been a hobby, but I'm proud to be a part of it and its community.
I can only say, I wish that I could have experienced it sooner :) The Amiga vision will always be a beautiful one and will always hold true in the people that understand it.

An Amiga 1000, about 1987. Still have it. ;-) Quite a leap up from the Atari 800 & 800XL I was using.

I bought my Amiga 1000 exactly 2 weeks after Commodore first introduced them, it was a great experience since my Otrana CPM emulated PC DOS with a Z80 and an original PC chip (i believe 8088) that emulated a DOS running machine finally expired. I was looking for a DOS type machine that used MSDOS 1.0 since I was programming Lotus 123 spreadsheets and Dbase II & III data bases for Navy, private business and banks. The person at the store assured me that the Amiga 1000 would be able to emulate a DOS machine with either DOS emulator software or a side car. So I laid out $1595.00 and bought an Amiga 1000 with 512K of ram, a supra hard drive card a 5 meg hard drive and then later 2 more meg of ram, for a total cost of about $3000.00. Later about 3 months down the road I bought a 68010 accelerator for the Amiga. This was really a flying system back then, was I disappointed, well at first yes, why did I have to type in df0: instead of just A:, Why did i Have to type in DH0: instead of C: ever try to format a disk with the original Amiga DOS commands, or try to copy a file over from a disk drive to a hard drive with the original Amiga DOS, what a nightmare, but somehow the Amiga grew on me and after about 6 months I thought that this was the greatest machine ever made.
Well I got a little off track anyhow I bought my Amiga 1000 2 weeks after the introduction.

Well I got my first Amiga in 1998, it was a A500. Brought a A500+, then a A3000. Later my dad brought A1200 and then A4000. I am afraid I am just a UAE user now got the latest to get the DVD version of the videos.
Meet Mr Haynie face to face in 2007 at a birthday celebration for the Commodore PET saw and touched the AAA Nyx board. Later that day drove to the old Commodore HQ, now owned by QVC home shopping. They do tours, which I did but nothing to see of the Legendary Commodore.

July 1989, when my parents bought Tiger Edition Rev5 A500. Maybe a better term would be bought and smuggled in, since back then we were not allowed to import home computers at all.
Whatever, I was 15 and just finished elementary with top grades (nerd...not!). Previously I was mostly dealing with ZX Spectrum which made transition to an archrival Commodore a bit tougher than expected.
Still got that 1st Amiga, she's in great physical shape and likes to be turned on. Not an unusual description for y 20-year old girl, right?

Let me think. I moved from C64 to Amiga very late. Must have been in 1993. It was an Amiga 600 with the games Pinball Dreams (I still love that game) and Barth Simpson vs. The Space Mutants. Cost me 599 DM (today around 300 Euro).

I think it was summer of 91. Bought my A500 after selling my C64 to a relative.
Saved for ages to afford one. But man was it worth it.

I got mine, an A500 with everything available for it at the time, at my first base, which was in Germany, back in 1990. I was always told, by everyone at the time, what an amazing computer it was. They were right! Now, 19 years later, I've made another Amiga Computer purchase - SAM440 Flex, from AmigaKit. I'll find out soon if this one lives up to the hype as well. Hope it's good. Thanks.

I got my A500 with tv modulator and 512kB chip/fast extra ram when I was some fourteen, in a year of 1991.
I got rid of it three years later when my hobbies were becoming more to beer and marijuana. A sad decicion I've been regretting ever since. But after that, I shared so much hatred and disgust towards the PCs that I got myself one yet in some 1999.
Now I wait for MorphOS for my MacMini PPC, if nothing hapens over the summer, I might eventually end up on Sam.

Got my A500 in fall '88 when I was about to leave the army and start with studying computer science - it did help a lot to have some experience with multitasking, semaphores and stuff! :juggler:
Follow up was a 3000 (yeah!), various PCs with varying components and just recently a PowerMac 9500/G4.

If I can remember correctly (I can't) it was about 1987 or 1988 after a Sinclair, Texas Instruments ti/994A, C-64, C-128, C-128D then the A500. We had a very active user group back in those days.
Discovery Software International was located here in Annapolis back then, and was a great help to all of the Amiga users. Thanks to Rick Ross. Those were great days, computer wise.
I bought the fourth A1200 that Arundel Computers got in. Hate to think what I paid for it, but it was a great machine - It's still here, working fine - slightly different configuration though. I still have the original receipt, but will not look at it...

Late 1987 it was an Amiga 500. Upgraded from a C64C. Ahhh the memories...............

A500, 1987, with Workbench 1.2. A friend of mine bought an A1000 in late 1985, which is how I got started. I can tell you first hand that Workbench 1.0 isn't something you want to try. I wanted an A2000, but I never owned one. Too expensive at first, and too underpowered later on.

i got my 2nd hand Amiga 500 in Dicember 1994
A500, 1084S and 512 Kb memory expansion
At the end of 1995 i got my A1200 with Omega and 2 MB di fast, then in 1996, 68030, HD and CDROM.
in 1997 i got my latest cpu: 68040@40 mhz and 32 MB

Late 80's, my first ever credit purchase. Amiga 500 with a 1084's monitor.
It stopped working approximately 1990, and got boxed up (other priorities). Just stumbled upon it, tested the power supply and it was junk. Bought a cable to use an ATX power supply, and it fired right up. All these years and it was just a power supply. But all those years were not good on my 1084s. Contrast knob assembly broke off the main board. No controls work, and has random vertical lines.
Anyone have any extra 1084s monitors?

I got my first Amiga, an A500 on summer of 2005. Paid 25€ for it. I'd like to say that I've managed with a C64 until that but no. :/
Did get an A590 hard drive unit for that prior switching to an A1200, which I still got.

It was the late summer of 1993, the A1200 was on the store shelf and I'd just graduated high-school and was starting college. Software and More was the store and I knew the owner from years past when I had attended the Commodore user group meetings. My C128 had seen better years and I needed a faster machine for my college stuff. The PCs I had seen were overpriced and didn't have graphics acceleration yet. I paid $650 for it and never regretted it.

I got my first Amiga in very late 1985 (my first ever cpu).
I've never used anything but AmigaOS and I seriously doubt I ever will...

In the fall of 1993. I saw an ad in the paper for an Amiga 2500 for $300--a real steal at the time. It came with a 1084s monitor and an assortment of graphics programs and a modem. I was living in the SF bay area and there were several Amiga BBSs at the time and a couple of months later I bought a Digi-view gold/DigiPaint package from one of the sysops which threw me into the world of primitive digital photography. It made me apreciate what 19th century photographers went through. It also caused relationship problems:"You're spending more time with that computer, than you are with me," etc, etc. The Amiga lived up to it's name and my girlfriend of the time was very jealous of it. That girlfriend is ancient history but I still have the Amiga. It was dying a few years ago and I was about to sell it but instead, replaced the motherboard and added a DKB Megachip, a DKB 2632 memory expansion, a 2320 flicker fixer and an EGS Spectrum graphics card, replaced the 1080s monitor with an LCD monitor and brought it into the 21st century. The only thing lacking is more time to play with it.

Excuse my ignorance however since you mention no cpu accelerator of any kind, I suppose a true B2500 would have come with an 020/030 perhaps?
I remember after I paid off my first A2000 (about $4000.00) I turned around the very next moment and brought an A2000HD, still too green to realise it was just the same thing with a HD added. Sold the A2000 for $2000.00 and signed another agreement for another $4000.00 lol
That A2000 was the only thing Amiga I ever sold to this day

It came with a stock 2630 accelerator with 4mb ram and a 2091 SCSI controller. It still has the original accelerator with the 2632 memory expansion designed for it. I replaced the 2091 with a GVP controller that boots faster and has less problems with SCSI zip drives.
It also came with the original receipts which were for well over $2000, not including the software. When I bought it, it was a super sweet deal.
