Title: Weird A2000 problem & CrossDos question...
Post by: spihunter on May 18, 2009, 11:23:34 PM
Hey Folks,

I have an A2000 with a GVP 030@33mhz board, Supra 2mb memory board, Toaster 2000 & a single TBC.

I have 12mb total on the GVP board now thanks to Software hut. The problem is when I pull the Supra 2MB board out of the machine it will no longer boot?

I stick it back in and it boots right back up?. Jumper setting on the GVP board maybe?
Does the toaster need memory in the Zorro space?. I cant figure it out...

I also forgot how to use CrossDos. You put PCO into DEVS/DosDrivers right?
Then do you just reboot thendouble click CrossDos?

Sorry, its been like 10 years since I used it!

Toaster and TBC are out of ZII memory space.
Do you really need this ram extension ? It's slow "16 bits fast". Increase Ram on your GVP "32 bits fast".

I have a different GVP accelerator, but I recall a jumper change was necessary when adding more memory.  Do you have the manual for your board? And did you have to make a jumper change?

Yea, I changed a jumper on the GVP board to move all the GVP ram out of the Zorro space.

The machine would even still boot with all the GVP ram mapped to the zorro space before I changed the jumper...

Its just strange that it wont boot at all if I pull out that damn 2mb zorro memory card?

Yes, that's rather bizarre.  Of course, one common booting problem is improperly seated memory, but I'm sure you've probably checked it at least 5 times by now.  Is there *any* memory & jumper configuration on your GVP card that will get it to boot without the other Zorro card plugged in?

Is there something hiding in your Startup Sequence or User Startup file?

a quick word on Cross DOS - The stand alone package, V7 is so much better than other versions, it is worth looking for! It finally includes long file names with other upgraded features...

Any progress on this weird problem?  Or does the GVP card or memory appear to be defective?
