Is there anything I need to know before installing OS 3.9? I am doing it on an A4000 that I got running. I made sure it has 3.1 ROMs and 3.1 installed. I just want to know if there is anything silly or special I need to worry about. Thanks in advance.

You need to have a preferably new blank floppy disk for making the emergency disk. Even if does silly at the beginning, it may come very handy years later. I used it much when having A1200 with CD-ROM connected through the PCMCIA slot, which requires additional drivers. These drivers were installed on the Emergency boot.
Later with only emergency boot and no hard drive, I was able to connect to Internet from the A1200 and browse, chat, FTP and other stuff with only 4 MB additional FAST RAM (6 MB total) and a 56K modem.

The Emergency Disk is not just preferable, it is essential for a proper installation of OS3.5 or OS3.9. To install the OS correctly, you must create the Emergency Disk, boot from it, and install from there.

And read this first:

Just make a new one with the OS3.9 installer.

Hmmm... never bothered with that myself. I've made the disk, but always continued the installation of OS3.9 over OS3.1 without rebooting.

AFAIK installing 3.9 without using the Emergency Disk is asking for trouble since it can result in wrong versions of things or something. I can't really remember now, but I think it's something to do with needing the new kickstart version up and running before installing.
