Hi all.
I am expecting my recently purchased MP3@64 to arrive within a week or so but before it arrives, i would like some info as to what players and OS versions work with this mp3 decoder. I have downloaded the MP3@64 Mepeg device and the supplied readme says that it will allow the decoder to work with AMPlifier that is supplied with OS3.9, but i am still happily running Workbench 3.1 on my A1200 and have no real need to upgrade to 3.9. Has anyone had this decoder working or knows if this decoder will work with other MP3 players under Workbench 3.1 with the downloaded Mpeg device??.
Cheers

There's older versions of AMPlifier, which also work on 3.1.

Yep. Use amplifier. I'm using 2.33 with my MP3@64. If you need help, just ask...

You can also try to use it with AmigaAmp.
AmigaAmp uses the MHI system, but with mhimdev.library (http://aminet.net/package/mus/play/mhimdev) it may also work with the mp3@64.
It's a "wrapper" that allows you to use your existing MPEG hardware and drivers in applications
which support the new MHI interface only. (such as AmigaAMP).
I successfully tested this library with amigaamp and my masplayer.

Hiya,
Yep I'm using Amplifier under 3.9 to play back MP3's while I work on my A1200 030/50mhz. I don't use any additional HW to do this though, just my Paula and CPU via AHI.

Thanks to all who have helped here in this thread. I'll try the older version of AMPlifier, but i wonder if the current program i am using which is called Prayer2 will work with the MP3@64??
Well i'll be busy experimenting when it arrives.
Cheers

Today I received my mp3@64. I successfully tested it with the following programs:
- Amplifier (using mp3at64mpeg.device)
- AmigaAmp (using mhimdev.library and mp3at64mpeg.device)
- Streamer 2.08 : last version on aminet (2.10?) crashes my system (using mhimdev.library and mp3at64mpeg.device)
- AmiNetRadio (Using mp3at64play. See the aminetradio documentation).
Thank you Jens and Chris for another piece of great hardware.

Great stuff. Thanks for letting me know what software you have had luck with. These are all running under OS3.9 i would presume?
Cheers

Yeah, I tested all these programs under 3.9.
But AminetRadio and AmigaAmp will also run under 3.1.
Streamer needs 3.5 at least.
Edit: I'm running Amplifier 2.26 under 3.1. Higher versions crash my system. (Google for amplifier226.lha)

Hi,
Are you using the mp3@64 on your 1200's internal clock port? Is it running ok - do you get any playback issues (any skips, loops, dropouts etc) or is it completely seemless? Was it a direct fit or did you need to use a clockport riser or extension cable?
I'm curious as I have had a lot of issues playing mp3's using a delfina on my internal clock port and wanted to see if this was any better.

I'm using the mp3@64 (mp3@64) in my a4000 on the clockport of my Xsurf.
I'm really happy with it. I use it to listen to shoutcast streams. There no skips or loops, but sometimes sound is interrupted.
On my a1200 I use a Masplayer Pro, and that also works great with MP3s and shoutcast streams.

@Mozzerfan
How much CPU Usage is there when you playback the shoutcast streams?

@Mozzerfan

Depends on the program being used.
With streamer2 I have about 38% CPU load.
With Amplifier I have about 32% CPU load.
With AmigaAmp I have about 94% CPU load.
This is with a 96 kbps 44 khz stream.
My system is an amiga 4000 with 060 processor.
There were some other tasks running in the background.
CPU monitor used is Idle68k.

Do you have problems streaming low bit rates?

Do you have problems streaming low bit rates?
Just tried to play a 32 kbps and 24 kbps stream.
There was no sound.
Edit: I don't know if that's a driver problem, or if it's a problem of the mp3@64 (mp3@64).

Well.. at least im not the only one.. there's a college reggae station 32kbps .. can't every listen to it.. but higher bit rate always works...

Happens on my Delfina, too. Don't know if it's Amplifier or a bug in the mpeg.device API.
