Well, only a few more hours left and this version of AO is gone. Obsoleted by a new version of PHP. So, we march forward.
You might not like it. Might not like the new site software or the new theme. The lack of features and the forum only nature. The rest will come in time. Doomsday is coming and we can't wait til the last day this server runs PHP4.
This is far better than the past when the site moved on in a momemt of disaster. We moved to Xoops when phpNuke (it was nuke, right?) that was running the site got hacked. Data was lost. The site was rebooted under Xoops. If I recall correctly this happend twice somewhat close together.
This time we get to keep all the data. It just will not be all be available when the new site goes live Saturday morning. Be patient!

Did everybody get their cult robes (https://www.getsnuggie.com) already in preparation for dooms day? Available in both Ainc Red and MorphOS Blue!
-
Say goodbye to the kitty! No longer will he sit there on the front page, waiting patiently for your contribution.
-
Farewell old friend. Hopefully, like the Phoenix you will be reborn from the ashes... better than ever!
-
What?!?! No robes in AROS black!
See you all on the flip side!!!
-
I guess I'll no longer have my 10,000+ post unranked status. I'll be just normal... again...
See you all on the other side!

It's the end of an era. But I think this can only be good in the long-run. Remember when magazines started dropping floppy disks in favour of CDs? Remember when they started putting AGA software on their coverdisks, or software which needed accelerators or more RAM? ISTR uproar on the letters pages from people who felt abandoned and left behind. But in the end the change was necessary to stop the Amiga stagnating as a floppy-only system. I hope the effect here will be the similar, stimulating further development of Amiga web browsers.

Quite. I think about I'll be down 3000 posts after the switch.
At least it will be an incentive to post more often, eh?
-
If the post counts will be anything like in the beta version of the new forum, I'll end up with a higher post count than Speel :-D :-P

Been watching too much Big bang theory (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/big_bang_theory/)? The product was placed in Season 2, Episode 23. Time to get a dialogue about Amiga and/or C64 in there ;-)

It looks like your post count made it through to the other side intact :D
Actually it looks like everyone's did.

Wheeeee! We're back and better than ever. :-)

I took a screen shot of the old site before it went offline so we don't forget...

Long live amiga.org! :D :salute:
Lack of features? For the first time I'm now actually seeing features! If the old site had any features at all then I never saw them... ;)
I didn't know (or I don't remember) anything else than Xoops. When was the site run on a nuke?

Meet the new Blog, same as the old Blog. - The Who

Looks like most things survived the transition. The new layout will take a bit of getting used to, that's all.
-
unimpressed, or call me low motivated to bother with a.org changing... why do i have to bother to learn the new layout??? I have lots of other things to do. So this may be a farewell for me or my posts will drop to even less/fewer than before. :-p
i'm also posting this more of a test. ;-) would be nice to have a quick start guide showing the new features and improvements.
-
And we're back in the room :-D

LOL, nice touch!

Well,it looks less featured to me.Appearance reminds me of the BBS days.
But I understand Wayne was forced to this by server software changes.Sometimes the big boys change the rules and the rest of us must go along or give up the game, even when we don't think it is fair.
I still don't understand what new, improved features the new hosting software offers over the old.Sometimes I wish the software people would stop "improving" a good thing.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
IF the automobile-petrol industries did what the computer industry does we would have to junk our cars every few years because they couldn't run the new version fuel! Oh no,I may give tthem ideas!
-
damn! I forgot to screen grab my old AV with post numbers etc
oh, well
good bye, old friend (http://i1.tinypic.com/xdcxa1.gif)

this is horrible.
sorry that's all I can say.

If you can't find anything helpful to say (constructive critisisms with actual suggestions) then maybe you shouldn't say anything at all. Wayne is busting his balls to do this FORCED change for our entertainment. I'm sure he would have much preferred to leave the site as it was but this move wasn't optional. Offhanded negative remarks are only going to piss Wayne off and won't help improve the site in any way. If you don't like it, offer ideas... or better yet, lend a helping hand.

well then, why are 6 lines practicaly WASTED in every post. (and every monitor has more width than height.)
how come amigaworld looks so good? even eab with its boring look is better.
here is a suggestion, be more like amigaworld.
-
Awwww......
@RRunner,
That screeen shot makes me nostalgic and sad at the same time. I've added that to my assortment of misc amiga.org pics I've collected over the years. =C
I think I shall make this one my desktop.
Glad to see you guys on the other side.

Give it some time!
I too struggle with the wasted hight, information about poster being above instead of next to the posting, but also the hight of the amiga.org logo + menu, that used to be much more interleaved. On my eeepc (1024x600) I actually see close to nothing usefull unless I scroll one page down. Luckily, this is all easy to change :-)
-
There's a lot of page clutter that could be trimmed down. Esp when viewing with portables this is true. And I guess Amiga computers have even less screen area.

Would the mobile theme not work better on portables?

Yay, my post count was saved!
I just had a look at the member list, and it seems that I've been away for too long.
So, Karlos, last one to 20k posts is a donkey! ;)

Karlos is a sucker for gauntlets being thrown down at him. You asked for it. I think he will reach 20k before you can say "Join the A.Org order of the sock social group"

Your rate is already much higher than mine.
