I think Google paid too much for it. It was a failure from a business point of view rather than a tech or popularity POV.

I really liked my palm m100, extremely useable/useful thingy, really well thought out. I'd still use it if it wouldn't have been broken.

Exactly, YouTube was/is not a failure of technology... just business...
