Title: Homer Simpson on your desktop!
Post by: Slash on September 16, 2003, 03:20:24 PM
Hello all!!

Just thought I'd post a quick preview of a little project I've been working on over the last week and which will hopefully be released in the next few days for graphics cards owning Amiga users.

Homer is compatible with AmigaOS3.9 and AmigaOS4.0beta, he should also function without problems on MorphOS, although this isn't tested.

Homer doesn't actually do anything, he's there for a bit of amusment on your desktop, i.e. he's very similar to the original Homer which is on Aminet now, except this version looks quite a bit nicer and has a few more (250+) frames of animation.

In this initial release Homer will stand nodding his head making comments, and be fully animated shouting Doh, going crazy and generally being happy with a few WooHoo's!

Neat! I used to use an old version of Homer off aminet on a beefed up A500 I used to have.

The problem was that apparently homer was written for 68000 in mind, and my A500 had a 030/50! Homer got annoying real quick because he was talking almost nonstop :-x

Hey cool!

I used to love buying PD disks of silly WB hacks back in the Good Old Days™. Ahhh... Lemmings on your WB, a guy cleaning the inside of your screen, upside down or melting workbench screen, bouncing mouse pointers, mouse pointer trails, eyes following the cursor, Neko running after your mouse pointer, cockroaches hiding under your workbench windows etc. etc.

Great fun :-)

Edit: I wish you lived in the south west so I could come and visit and play with OS4 ;-)

I particularly liked the "scientifc explanation" in the readme as to why the inside of your screen might be dirty  :-D it's worth downloading just to read that  :-)

Edit: My fave was the little cat in a window which followed your mouse-pointer and scratched at the window border if you were out of bounds  :-)

That's awesome!! Will he work on a 3000 with a Picasso II or do I need something newer?

TIA,

I really enjoyed Homers company there on my workbench, although he would become a little annoying after a while and it seemed to cause some problems with my setup once in a while, it was still a lot of fun having him there saying all that crazy stuff. I'm really looking forward to checking out the new Homer when it's done, its looking better already.

Thanks Slash,
for working on the new Homer, T23. :-)

That is just awesome!

I too love all those useless wbhack-thingies. Do tell when Homer v2 is done.

I remember I used to run the beautiful magicWB eyes in the titlebar at boottime until I got rid of it (the titlebar)...then it just looked stupid.

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

@98PaceCar

I don't see why not, it should work, maybe a bit slow if you use the transparent feature.

The current transparent solution is a quick slow implementation, I will start on improving that bit up as soon as the initial version is out.

@All

I should also mention Homer has an AREXX port, for example when you get a new mail in YAM you could have Homer shout Woohoo.

@elendil

Like this?

Such as? Any ideas?  :-?

I'm also currently working on two other project for AmigaOS4, a MUI development IDE and an Instant Messenger to talk to MSN and AOL.

I'm fully worked out at the minute, so no time for anything else just yet   :-)

I think this is it, on Aminet: util/wb/Ameko.lha (http://www.aminet.net/util/wb/Ameko.lha)

Hmm... and what's about an alarm option? :-)

If it's activated the homer sleeps until he wokes up and starts screaming the hell out (like in the tv part where he founds the dead body of smithers father :-) )

Hi Slash..

Was interested in your Homer project but more interested in the fact you're in Newcastle.
