Title: AmigaOne Graphics drivers
Post by: fatman2021 on September 16, 2003, 04:50:08 AM
I would like to know what graphics/video drivers are available for the AmigaOne (PowerPC Linux/AmigaOS 4)?

If they use SciTech SNAP drivers, it would support
about 150 to 200 graphics chipsets.
This would include most voodoo, radeon, nvidia etc.

Inital 3D support will be for Voodoo 3 & Permedia 2
3D Support for Radeons will come later in an update.

Radeon support will follow quickly after initial release.

GeForce is out of question, that is because NVidia does not give away any sort of documentation. Without that, writing a driver is strictly impossible. There is also no open-source driver for this around.

7xxx models will have initial support. What comes next depends a bit on the circumstances; I'd guess that A W3DV4 driver for 8xxx could come, but it might as well all go Nova at that time.

Many people who have a PCI solution in their "Classic" Amiga have a Voodoo 3.

And if anyone considered buying the latest Radeon, or a GeForce FX for their AmigaOne, I'd be forced to accuse them of being stark raving BONKERS.  Why?  There's going to be little or no 3D support (in the shape of games), and what little there might be won't require the latest graphics card to properly run it.

Last I heard (IIRC, I didn't pay a great deal of attention as I'm not an ATI user) OS4 will support some low-end Radeons out of the box.

I prefer to keep my Voodoo3 in my classic system. That has the added benefit of realistically acquiring an AGP card for OS4 use, mainly freeing up 1 more PCI slot.
