I am just marveling at the asking price of $15,000 for a Kaypro II luggable computer. If he got his asking price (he won't), we'd be entering a new paradigm in retro computers pricing.
-
So I guess I've got $30,000 in the other room.
Actually, my Kaypro machines are much less complete and in bad shape, but I got them for $10 each. Canadian dollars. When the Canadian dollar was probably worth $.65 US. :-)
And they're not both Kaypro II models. One is a Kaypro 2.
From the eBay posting:
The Kaypro II is unusual because the entire case is made out of metal.
Is that so unusual? I'd have to think about it. I think wooden cases are much more unusual. Both of my PETs have cases completely of metal. Plus the face of the Kaypro, with the screen and disk drives, is plastic, so it's more plastic than my PETs. :-)
For really interesting and possibly valuable classics with metal cases, I think that my GRiD Compass beats the Kaypro. Bubble memory, funky orange display (plasma?), in a clamshell magnesium-alloy case!
I think I'll put it on eBay with a starting bid of $15,000,000.00!

what can you do with a kaypro ? or is it just a 15k dust collector ?
-
Recall that there was one for $35,000 a few months ago on eBay. Needless to say, it did not sell.
-
Hmmm... 0 bids with only 16 hours to go. I wonder why that is. :roflmao:

Peggy Hill would be proud!

I see!
On that subject, has anyone else noticed that the Amiga prices on ebay seemed to have gone down quite a bit this year so far? Bad economy? availability of the Sam boards?
I saw a A4000 Toaster go for $220 the other day.

If this is the same bonehead, he originally listed it for $20,000.
I sent him an email asking if he had even considered looking at other auctions for Kaypros and said he'd be lucky to get $200.
The only response he sent back was , "Thanks for your input."

Wow, I should be able to get at least $10K for my CBM SX-64!
Geez, wonder what this guy is smokin?

I saw that A4000 Toaster go cheaply too, but I think it was a real fluke. In general, the Amiga prices appear to be holding up pretty well on eBay, so far as I can tell. I too am getting ready to list my Commodore SX-64 for over $15,000 -- perhaps with a buy-it-now of $99,999?

Hey everybody - it's me! kick'in it from the beach on my KAYPRO II! Just finished writing my own email client so I could send this totally awesome news!
Life is totally different now that I'm a KAYPROer ! Always on the go, get lots done, and I have way more friends.
