Title: WHDLoad major help
Post by: amiga2009u on April 09, 2009, 04:25:32 PM
Hi all, right I really can't get my head around this WHDLoad software, is there a in depth step by step guide anywhere? As I find the one on the website useless!!
Cheers..
Nicky

And whats happening ?

http://www.whdload.de/whdload/WHDLoad_usr.lha - Download and then unpack this (unpack on the Amiga).

Install it and you should be off to go..

reposting what i said in a previous whdload thread

1 - install http://www.whdload.de/whdload/WHDLoad_usr.lha - this will copy all the whdload files to the correct places

2 - download http://www.aminet.net/util/boot/skick346.lha, and copy everything in the kickstarts folder to devs:kickstarts/

3 - put your kickstart files in devs:kickstarts/ and rename them as it says on http://www.whdload.de/docs/en/need.html. you dont need to do this untill whdload asks you for a certain kickstart.

4 - get a game from http://www.whdownload.com/ and extract the files to a folder and run the .slave file, or get the slave itself from http://www.whdload.de/ to install your own games

5 - have fun!

Alternatively you could install ClassicWB, which as an unregistered copy of WHDLoad installed and setup for you. Just add games and away you go!

Thanks everyone i'll give all this a try, what I kept getting was a runtime error 10 or something, is it all in CLI or should it bring up some sort of GUI?

RTFM ;-)

You need to copy the copyrighted kickstart files to "devs:kickstarts/"

I'm using the ones from the WHDload website.
And have re-named them accordingly as it says which i can make out is by removing the ".PAT"?

There aren't any Kickstart roms on the WHDLoad site.

The ROM files needs to be renamed, yes, but the additional files from the skick archive shouldn't.

no, you need an actual image of kickstart, from amiga forever, or from a real amiga.

and classicwb is excellent, i use it for winuae and my a1200 030/50
