Title: Can anyone provide a step by step on opening the A1200?
Post by: zektor on April 07, 2009, 05:56:32 AM
I have one coming and of course have to open it to install some things. I do not want to risk screwing up the case, and I have never opened an A1200 (or owned one) before. From the pictures I have seen, it looks as if the computer is connected by those little plastic tabs in back (I *hate* these...had some like this on a Vic-20 and they broke of course). I would just like somebody to tell me how to properly open this sucker! :)

Have a search on the net to see if anyone has done a proper guide with pictures.

1) turn the sucker over and lay it on something soft (tea-towels are a good choice).
2) Using the correct size phillps screw-driver undo the 3 screws at the front (1 may be under a warrenty sticker, remove the sticker).
3) Remove the two screws on either side towards the back.
4) That's it!
5) Flip it back over and slowly lift the top of the case off (be careful as the LED section in the top of the case is attached so either disconnect or unscrew the 2 little screws that hold it to the top case).
6) Lift up the little white bit of plastic the holds the keyboard ribbon and then gently pull the ribbon free, this will allow you to remove the keyboard.

Have fun

You make it sound a whole lot easier than it was to open my A600. While I didn't break anything, it was certainly HARD to open. It just didn't come free like you are saying the A1200 does.

Definitely beware the little plastic lugs/tags - easy to break, though at least they're stronger than those on the A600's case, which seem to break with no pressure at all.

Nice step by step ... Just don't forget the screws (1 on each side) at the bottom of the case near the floppy drive and the one on the other side .

You cant miss them
