I realize I've spent years and years with you all through all the happy, angsty times on this rollercoaster called Amiga but I/we don't know much about each other.
This thought came after the revelation that bloodline is a member of the band Tan Huaser Gate (clicky his linkys) and, gasp, has an interesting and cool life out side the world of Amiga.
I'll go first I guess. I'm in a little town called Rexburg in Idaho, USA and am about to graduate in 10 days. I'll have a degree in English - Creative Writing and all I have to look forawrd to is officer school for six months. Then, hopfully, I come back home, link up with my national Guard unit and take a break for a bit and run a Lazer Tag facility.
So what about you all?
-
Dude, I'd loooove to run a Laser Tag facility. Sadly they don't seem to be popular in London.
Currently I am a system administrator but not that keen on this particular job (there's politics and douchebaggery galore).
I have one or two hobbies that might develop into paying activities but at the moment they are unpaid pursuits.
-
I don't get to use my Amiga much at all anymore since its about 3 states away and I mistakenly sold off the 030 accelerator for it. But aside from the Amiga, I have a year left to graduate from college and getting my certification in Cisco, but its only a CCNA certification.
I also like car audio related stuff. (Brands like Resonant Engineering, FI car audio, Sundown Audio, Digital Designs, etc....) And just like bass lol.
Also did ham radios for awhile and then I sold off my HF radio, but hope to pick up on it again in some years. But for the most part like to spend time with my girlfriend which we have been together for about 3 years now. I currently reside in hays, KS, but my hometown is Lovelock, Nevada.
-
I live in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada... married... two kids... and work for a small software company in Toronto as a Technical Business Analyst. My job takes me to a lot of places, mostly in the US but on occasion I do get sent to visit customers in the UK. We have a lot of really cool fortune 500 customers that I have been fortunate enough to work for such as AOL, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Boeing, Harper Collins and Scholastic to name a few. Every project is a new can of worms and a learning experience. Keeps me on my toes.

Well, I do use Amigas to make music! :-) Well, actually on the last Album used E-UAE on my MacBook Pro, as my A1200 was just to bulky to make it into the studio... I think I did use the old A1200 in some of the preproduction demos, and some of that made it into the final recordings... :-D

You don't work for a Toronto-Based company called Northplains, do you?

I do use my amigas as much as I can , it's a nice hobby that becomes serious sometimes when I use it for stuff I'd use a PC for, like online banking (thanks Joerg for OWB!). Currently I'm single, just moved to South Mexico City to a new house after living all my life in appartments and my life is dedicated to Systems Administration (oracle/nformix Databases, Solaris/Linux sys admin). I studied computer science engineering at the "National Politech Institute" in Mexico City. I have a large collection of Amiga/Commodore 8 bit machines and I try to use them as much as I can. :-)
Cheers!

I'm British, but I live in Louisiana, USA and work out of Rio in Brazil for a large American oil company.
I got into the Amiga in the 80s and bought an A2000 with my first paycheque from the British Army.
This will be my last trip to Brazil for a while and I'll be working in Houston until the end of the year.
Wife (Australian), 2 kids, a dog and 2 cats. :-)
-
Married, 2 Kids. I work for a group of companies in Syndey Australia my job description well how can i put it, I do everything from building PC/Server to System Admin, Web/Email hosting/admin, and Purchasing of all thing computer realated. prob forgot a few other "titles" :-D .
I have been into Amigas since 1986 (A500), I am staring to have a nice collection of 8bit/16bit Computers and a few consoles (nothing new). Love Martials Arts, Fantasy/SciFi Novels, messing around with electronics.
-
I am a Golf Course Superintendent. I recently got married. I have used Amiga's since the mid 80's when I moved up from c64. I used the Amiga daily until 97 when I finally gave in and bought a PC. I hadn't touched an amiga in years until I was home at my parents for x-mas 07 and found my 3000T sitting in the attic. I brought it home with and have tinked with it another several other amiga I have bought over the last fews years on a daily basis again.

Ok, you win... that is the awesomest job ever. On the down side, all I see is Bill Murray, talking with a lisp hunting gophers when I try to imagine what you look like!
but WOW! About half if not more of us seem to have been in the tech field and at high levels at that!
I used to be the head tech of an on-site comppy repair company for a few years myself, but never got into the network admin. stuff...

Good guess. How on earth did you know that?!?!?
-
I've been into Amigas since I moved on from the C64 way back when... (Gotta admit, the first time I booted it I thought "What the hell have I done???" )
I ran a BBS for a while then at some stage (I only know it was after Commodore went under, and in disgust) I moved onto PCs.
I pulled my 1200 out of the garage a few years ago and have been re-obsessed ever since!
I'm the Distribution Manager for a newspaper company in Sydney... Although I do have some computer science qualifications, I seem to be one of the few who didn't go into a tech job!
-
Well, my job is nothing to brag about, so I'll get it out of the way first... I had a job mantaining/updating POS terminals and other assorted PC's, I got laid off after being there 17 years... Currently, working at a convenience store, part time...
Have always been a bit of a computer nerd, I still have (and use) my Timex Sinclair, C-64's, C-128's, and other oddballs like Mattel Aquarius, Tandy model 4P. I used my first ever tax refund to buy an A500 bundle in about '88, and haven't been right since...
Other hobbies, military history, scale models / trains, Sci-Fi, pretty much anything dealing with medieval history...
I actually have a reproduction 3/4 suit of Pikeman's armour done in 18 ga. steel, but at 150 pounds not including pike, dagger, etc. I don't wear it very often... ;-)

I am working as information security specialist in a IT service company Tieto (http://www.tieto.com/default.asp?path=1,92). I live in Helsinki, Finland (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=fi&q=Merimiehenkatu,+Helsinki,+Suomi&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=82.232809,186.152344&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=FQb8lQMdi458AQ&split=0&z=16&iwloc=addr). Basically I audit information systems and applications. In short: I break into computer systems with permission.

:-D :-D :-D
Now that would be lots of fun...
-
Hiya Piru, love your work BTW :-D
I'm a coder (my username kind of gives it away). I work for a government agency in sunny old Oz developing extremly boring Java Web applications.

Hi. Outside of Amigaworld, I am doing a travel site called www.distrita.com, well.. not entierly non-Amiga as most of graphics is done with TvPaint but also Photoshop etc.
Other than this, I am a part of a Japaneese filmclub at the University of Oslo. Showing all kinds of anime series and films each Friday. My favorite anime of all time is Now and Then, Here and There (picture) and One Piece.
I am also a member of TSP - The Shadow Project, then I am a part of LTF - Local Trafic Forum so my next hobby to Amiga and watching Japaneese cartoons is trainspotting.
I also love to go out and eat new types of food. Love to taste if I like new stuff or not.
In the end I want to work with TV graphics. That's idents, promos and more or as an graphic artist using TvPaint. I would also work for climate as that is something that I burn for too. I am also a part of Venstre, The Liberal Party of Norway. I haven't been so active there, went to one meeting :) But I will try to do something with that in the future.
That's me,.. ohh.. and I have a Playstation 3 and a dead Dreamcast :( I wish that it worked. Loved it so much... well.. needs to have a look on ebay sometime.
-
Hey AmiDelf, have you heard of the Anime Monster or one called Mu-shi-shi? I like me a giant beat-em up, but these really get your mind going in very very different ways... just thought I'd throw it out there.
-
I used to work in IT (desktop support), but gave it up in 2007 to train as a Speech and Language Therapist. I will qualify in May 2010. I am struggling to finish my album, though after buying all the software I use and commissioning the cover art, I will probably end up making a loss on it ;-)

Been in the graphic arts industry for about 23 years, from screenprinting to animation. Also was a radio DJ for about 15 years. I work in Mobile, Alabama at a music company.
I got started in computers in 1980. I'd walk to the VAX lab at Auburn University after school (the benefits of growing up in a college town!), then moved on to Commodores... Vic, 64, A500 and 4000. I got into Macs from having to use an Emplant in the 4000 while working as a contract designer for a magazine. Still use an Amiga... mainly E-UAE on an iMac, but just got a 1200 to play around with.
-
Wow some great people on here!
I've been using Amiga's since early 90's
I still use mine all the time, although forever buying and selling bits of them!
I'm a musician, mainly guitarist/songwriter for a band called Crimson Sky.

Well, I work at an appliance store but I used to write articles and game reviews for the Amiga Informer, Amazing Computing/Amiga and a few online Amiga publications. I still have several Amigas that I play around with and just moved into a larger house with a proper room where I plan to have as many as possible set up to use. I still much prefer using Amiga over any other computer.
-
im visual artist. well, i do mostly paint, since i cant code properly (only simple scripts), but ive done some video installations technically based on amigas. one of them is probably still touring around the world as part of an exhibition "kunstraum deutschland" organized by german institut for foreign contacts (ifa).
here is a screenshot:

Great thread! I've been into commercial coin-op restoration most my life for the private sector. Pinball, shuffle alley bowler, video and electro-mechanical arcade sales and service. Have dabbled in professional photography and music as a drummer for a 50's-80's themed cover band too. Still drum, do it for fun, but currently no longer part of a band. Will get back to making money at it someday for sure.
Was in "love" with the Amiga since day one and have owned several each of EVERY model except the A3000. Used them back in the day for sequencing/digitising various music projects and genlock'd wedding videos for cash on the side. Oh, how could I forget... used 'em lots for gaming too :-) I still have a massive magazine collection and it's fun to look through them, see what things cost and reminisce about better times.
For a large percentage of my adult life, sold computers & electronics at various stores too. At Montgomery Ward's (being married to a VP's daughter), I helped convince our computer buyer to sell Amiga's as part of a test in their latest and greatest 'Electric Avenue' store. Sadly, in the buyers finite wisdom, the A500, 501 expansion, 1011 and 1084 were about the only lines we "stocked" or could get. This would have been late 80's, when the term multimedia was being defined. PERFECT opportunity for Commodore to have a large presence in a serious consumer electronic store. Even though i was on 100% commission, did my damndest to sell A500 packages for $1k vs. PeeCee clones w/ CD-ROMS for $4k. I have always been that passionate and enthusiastic about Amiga! lol It didn't matter. Between Ward's and Commodores replenishment/support system - was completely botched anyway. I've witnessed first hand how a superior concept and product could give way to inferior concepts and products thanks to inept companies and managers. Perhaps if we sold A2000's with CD-ROMS, HD's and accelerators... things *might* have been different. Oh, and people would return their A500's before too long anyway, since software was "hard" to find.
Anyway, now that I've got my Miggy systems pretty much tweaked out, looking forward to actually using and enjoying them again!! VERY easy to get caught up in the hardware aspect of modding, adding on, tweaking, etc. As most others know... 'because we can' :-)
-
Seems like everyones either creative of a geek (in a good way!) :-D
Might as well add one more geek to the pile.
I'm a code monkey working for a computer games company in Nottingham, UK. I've been doing this stuff at what they laughably call a professional level for almost 6 years now.
I got into the Amiga right after having a C64 as a friends father ran a small computer sales company and got us a returned A500 on the cheap (only way i'd have ever got one, we were a bit broke)! That lasted me for many years until I got a little part-time job when I was 14 and saved up for a 3rd hand 486 PC since I couldn't afford an A1200 or anything better :-(
I kept the Amiga500 of course and still have it! I ended up doing a lot of Amiga repairs and when people got fed up of the machines they simply gave them to me. Hence I now have 2xA500s, A500+, A600, A1200 and a CD32... why oh why does no-one give away big-box Amigas huh!?!?!
That's pretty much it. I've got a few released titles on a bunch of different platforms and I'm hardware/software agnostic nowadays. I just have a soft spot for my Amigas :-)
Andy
EDIT: Since others have mentioned it I'm also rather into Anime/Manga etc
-
I'm a Noodler in the Ohio valley region. I suppliment that by servicing industrial automation and controls around the country.
I bought my first Amiga 500 in 1988 after passing a store front with a 500 and an XT both running Battle Chess in demo mode. I was hooked imediately and have been every since.
My other interests are amateur astronomy, sailing, and antique technology. I have rescued treadle sewing machines, tube-type radios, Hp calculators and computers, a magic lantern, Betamaxes, hand powered tools, and many Amigas. The wife and kids are kind about this stuff. We all understand that some it now needs a new home. Grin.
-
I live in the big apple and work in the advertising industry. Sucks. I'm currently unemployed right now.
Good thing is I can focus on my Amiga hobby.
I'm also an Amiga gamer
-
lots of interesting carrers on hear me i am a lowely construction worker/roofing been messing about with amigas since 86 still here and no intentions of giving my miggy up based in london
;-) ;-)

Currently, I'm not married, nor dating. I'm working as a colorist for DC Comics, do 3D modeling as contract work and edit pr0n for independent companies in Premiere. I just got another A500, back in December 2007, but I haven't turned it on in well over a year. Mostly, I work in UAE if I need to do something Amiga.
I'll buy a new Amiga when it's either X86 or it's not on a sub-par "embedded board" that costs the same as a decent PC.
[EDIT] - I am also in an EBM band, doing programming and vocals. I track a lot of music to pr0n videos.
-
Age: 28
I got my first A500 in 1991/92.
Generaly I like Amiga as my indoor hobby, for bad weather and the winther period, and because I had one when I was a kid and now I can afford the things I wanted back then ;-)
I'm an electronic technician, working as a DeWALT technician, same job since 2001.
Lived in Denmark all my life. My home is a little house out in the country, I like the nature.
Live alone, except for my two dogs.
My BIG hobby is my car, Ford Taunus. Owned my first when I was 17. They are hard to find theese days, so I have another car for daily use.
I use a lot of time with some other Taunus "nerds", we have a club ;-)
Amiga and Ford Taunus has one thing in common, they are rare and the prices are going up
In my spare time I like to spend time with my friends, repair almost all kind of old stuff, help some family wich have a large farm close to where I live, or just drink a couple of beers with my neighbour or a couple of friends :-)
-
I live Port Orchard, Washington and work as a Network Administrator for a school district in Tacoma, Wa.
I'm single, with one kid.
I do alot of coding in my spare time, most recently for the Android cell phone platform. Got three 99c apps on the Android Market that trickle in money each day. Hoping the iPhone ports will do better.
Hey Piru, wanna try to compromise my network? hehe.

I'll echo the comment..what a great thread!
Let's see, I've owned an Amiga since the first shipment hit Sacramento in October 1985. I was lucky enough to attend the first meeting of the Sacramento Computer Club and meet the guys who later became Digital Creations. I was the first Secretary for the club.
I wrote for a ton of Amiga mags, including Amazing, Compute and Amiga World, and worked on several user manuals (A-Max, Brilliance, DCTV).
My favorite and saddest Amiga moment, talking with Jay by phone the day they closed the Los Gatos office...
I'm married and retired from my regular job at the California Energy Commission last year. (My wife says to take care of our border collie!)
I did a number of things for the Commission including managing the review of power plants and advising an appointed commissioner. Since I retired I've been working on a number of contracts in the renewable energy field.
In the spare time I play bass and guitar but no time for a band at the moment. I also have a nice BMW motorcycle that needs my attention since the weather is improving here!
-
Cool thread indeed! It does seem that most people are working at IT or some other branch of technology, and I'd wager most are pretty passionate about it too :-)
Myself, I'm an instrumentation engineer working for a clinical diagnostic instrument and reagent manufacturer. My job is split: The first half is servicing and repairing the existing instruments, the bread and butter stuff you could say. But the fun part is working on the development of a new instrument for the past couple of years. I can't say too much about it now, apart from it's a blood analyzer targeted at large hospitals and labs, and specifically I write some of the firmware contained in some of the instrument's modules. Pretty interesting IMHO anyway!!
Unfortunately the Amigas don't get a look-in in that job, but they're one of many hobbies that absorb all my free time. Hobby #1 is, of course, my girlfriend, who is a classical singer and who I follow all over the place to watch perform. She's followed by my Amigas and Amiga-related projects (MP3 jukebox, web sites etc.), my car (old '95 Golf GTi), photography (Nikon D80 and all the trimmings), music (listening), drinking (German or mainland European beer) etc. etc.
-
I own my own computer repair business. It`s quite ironic that some of the money we make from repairing pcs goes into buying Amiga kit.
-
I work at the Norwegian NREN (national research and educational network), my card says "Internet engineer" (iirc), but at the end of the day "digital janitor" is probably a better description.
My work involves general sysadming of mostly Linux machines, but also too some degree *BSD, network "gear" from Cisco, Juniper, HP, Dell and whatever. In addition I'm involved in various projects such as eduroam (common wireless authentication across univs/schools of europe, and beyond), IPv6 deployment (services) and various other subjects.
Privatly, I play with Linux on various systems, mostly by using Gentoo/Portage. I run Gentoo on two A1200s and a Mac Quadra 910 and maintain the m68k binary packages for Gentoo. In addition to this I also ofcourse love to spending time with AmigaOS, MorphOS and AROS. My love for amiga started when I as fresh student bought an A1200 to do "type writing" on, back in '94, thanks to a student computer club at the univ, I met other amigans and quickly also got involved with *ix and networking.
My classic amiga collection currently lacks A1000 and A2000B, A3000UX and A3000T, and I never bothered with A1s, pegasos or efika since I had the CSPPC to try out OS4 and MorphOS on. However, the new SAM440 flex is just the kind of system I've been waiting for, so... woohoo!
Other interests involve movies (not only "hollywood", but also european, asian, south american etc), music (focus on "electronica" and "world", I think), archery, playing games that involve hitting/kicking/throwing a ball (currently mostly volleyball), drinking beer, languages (slowly studying russian), going to concerts, knocking myself out on dancefloors, downhill skiing and skiblading, occational ski kiting, swimming, diving... :-)
-
Wow, great mix of talent and interest here. As for me, first the boring stuff..... IT Admin for networks, databases, window and unix. Before all of that I repaired hardware for about 15 years including just about any brand of computer you can name except for Eniac and Cray.
And for fun... I sail, cycle, make music, cad cam new hardware, and I've recently started an old car restoration project on a basket case 1969 Javelin that hopefully will look more like my avatar and this one day.... American Motors Javelin (Wiki) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_Javelin) . But for now you can see what it looks like here...Plaz's car restore project (http://www.photobucket.com/plazinjavelin) . You'll also see my Mame arcade project in progress and another Defender cabinet I'm repairing. I also have a minimig and GBA1000 board waiting for completion, but I just don't have time to finish them any time soon with kids and so many projects going. Oh did I mention the shed for tools and car parts that's about half built? Hope to have that done this week. See the pic at photobucket. :)

I had a Javelin in the 70s. To this day, I've always liked the look and lines of the first Javelins.
-
software engineer and now sys admin ... wearing 2 hats for now.

I'm an unemployed programmer working in my spare time on an extensible LLVM-based compiler called Mattathias and compiler construction kit for it. I'm also a moderator on the Amos Factory website ( http://amos.pspuae.com/ ). As you might have guessed, our first language to be implemented with the Mattathias framework will be an Amos-compatible language for the LLVM-supported operating systems.
-
i'm a garbageman. it's not as bad as it sounds. i find lots of cool stuff some of which i'm able to sell.
i keep hoping to find an a3000 tower someone has set out lol. no amiga 'junk' as yet though.
-
I am a truck driver, kinda dull job and sometimes very annoying, though in my spare time i sometimes work on (fix) computers for people where i live.

I could always take a quick peek if you like. That wouldn't be anything like full audit, however.

Dude! Best. Job. Ever.
I'm 34 1/2, married, 1 child. I work for a Norwegian company that specializes in microwave communication. According to my card I'm a "senior embedded software engineer", but I do lots of different things at work. Some server administration, customer visits, electronics, and of course lots of programming in C and assembly.
My spare time (outside family time) is dedicated to the demoscene, mostly classic Amiga, but also on other exotic platforms (not PC). I'm also getting aquinted with OS4.1 which by the way is bloody GREAT, and I'm also hooked on arcade machines (thanks to a certain someone in this forum) and I'm doing the finishing touches on my MAME arcade machine these days.
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

LOL, well I get stick from the guys in work - there are about 300 people in my job and mine is the oldest car in the car park ;-) I guess it's a sign of the strong economy we've had in the past decade that everyone has pretty new cars. Though I have to say I love it and won't be replacing it in the foreseeable future... There's another 100,000 miles in her yet!!

I work at a school as an IT Technician and webmaster. I also have written and co-written a few custom apps for the school network to get jobs done that need doing.
It's the kind of job where you plod along through the day, doing what you're told to do even if it's a stupid idea... Which it usually is. There's always severe time constraints for the most ridiculous tasks and the way the network is set up is a bit of a nightmare if I'm honest, but that's due to a number of factors, two of which are RM ( http://www.rm.com for details... Not my choice, Network Managers choice and now we're stuck with it ) and money (The head isn't keen on IT.... (WHY?!?!?!)) The biggest one though was having to move the WHOLE server room in less than a week with no money for new cabling... I'm sure anyone who does networking can kind of see why that was a problem...
I'm hoping to get away from the web side of work.. it's really depressing, doing repetitive tasks day after day... an SQL query here, a bit of HTML there... boooooring!
To be honest, if I had more "get up and go" I'd probably look for another job... But I guess I'm just lazy and then complain about it :)
As other people have mentioned I am also into Manga and Anime and do some drawing on the side :)
My current car is a Mazda RX-8, 2004 plate.. I've had it just over a month now and it's a lot of fun :)
I'll shut up now :)
-
@Daedalus
Well, I have to agree with you, my car(s) is the oldest at my work too :-D
My colleagues say that I need to buy a new car "it's much cheaper" but I know I can fix my own car for next to nothing and I know what they pay for getting their cars repaired, about 10 times more than it costs me to keep this old faithful
But, my old golf will keep on going and going and go....
-
Great thread and it's very interesting to read what everyone is up to. I'm IT support for a transit company, mainly dealing with the Domino database and email administration. I have a degree in music and that would have been my ideal career but I think I am both not good enough and too lazy to do all the gigging and promotion that a career in music requires. I just do it in my spare time for my own ears using my Amigas and it makes me happy. Being IT support has it's nightmare days but overall I think it was the career I am best suited towards :-)

Ah, an old Golf too :-) Can't beat it! Just thought you (and others) might be interested in this road trip I'm doing in August. The idea is to drive from Holland to the north of Norway in a car worth less than £100. Should be great fun, especially if you can generally fix your car on the side of the road! And it's for charity... Check it out:

We're going in a VW Jetta from 1990 with over 250,000 miles on the clock :-o :-o
Sorry for the OT there guys...

Interesting thread. I'm a project manager and I run refurbishment and overhaul projects at nuclear power plants in the US and Canada. I'm a mechanical engineer by training. I have been an Amiga enthusiast since 1987 and I currently own three working machines that I use regularly, a micro A1, A3000 & A2500. I dabbled in Amiga programming years ago but don't have the time any more.

@Daedalus
I like this :-D

Nice thread, again.
About the Amiga. Not much to say. I owned A500 for a couple of years, I mostly played games because of the age. I fought PCs back in those days. Tried to touch some system/ dev but I eventually got rid of it. I think I'll go Sam ASAP. And then I will definitely do some dev, I think of a spreadsheet app.
What I do. I try to do some IT. Now I deal with PhD thesis in bioinformatics (protein contact maps), just been working in a wireless/mobile industry as a consultant. Those are my two hottest topics. I also used to work in IT&T in numerous roles, sales engineer, web consultant, systems analyst, dev, helpdesk, also journalist. My education is maths/AI plus some extras, I'll try to go for IP legal stuff this year also.
The trivia stuff. I'm 31, got wife and nearly two-year-old daughter. I live in Warsaw, Poland, which is a capital city - for 13 years now. I come from south-eastern Poland. I plan (and always have) to immigrate to Aussieland approximately in 2-2.5 years because I'm fed up with mentality here but not only, feel kindda alien.
Do not own a dog, I hate them, I like cats, I'll try to get myself a leech as a pet, I used to have a spider.
My hobbies are AMIGA (got back to it in December), also SF (comic books, books like Philip K. Dick, movies). I also like the old school compting and gaming, also micromusic. I like to walk thru mountains. I am about to quit smoking alas I love beer and whiskey.
EDIT* some more details added
-
I calibrate and assemble measurement instruments for industry.
-
Software Engineer for a financial institution. Really only just started, so not much to explain.
Still have my first A500, plus my A1200, two other A500s and a CD-32. The CD-32 needs the drive motor replaced, and is otherwise working. Various pieces of kit and nowhere to set them up at the moment. :-(
Still playing on eUAE, and now play Settlers on the train thanks to UAE4ALL!
I'm hoping to record an album for old-times sake at the end of the year, as well as learning x86-assembler for fun (since I nailed the embedded microprocessor (Freescale) subject in my final year of Uni.). I'd also like to apply my VLSI intro. to something, but it's early days yet. :-D

A truck driver, 20-> wheelers, and also as a sparetime PC-repairer. Been with computer and consoles, as long as i can remember. The job was my own choise, could have chosen something more related to my hobby, but i've always wanted to be free (free from the marriage as well=divorced, and have 2 wonderfull crownup kids, and 3 grandkids):) Amigas were the computers for my taste, and still are. Born at '62. That's pretty much all, folks :D
-
I work at a stupidly large company packaging software for intra company distribution across our network. In other words, I spend the majority of my days getting software to work properly in Windows.
-
got my first and only Ami, a 2000, in 1989 or so... upgraded over the years and still occasionally firing it up. Can't say I'm a regular user though but heck .. enjoying the beast :-)
In real live I work with Java at the Coffee shop - yup, Sun itself... soon to be IBM rumour says :/
Living outside of London, but a Belgian originally
Tom UK
-
I restore antique furniture, and pianos/harpsichords/clavichords - play guitar - Blue grass and rock mostly.
Been using Amiga computers since 1986 - but also use Windows now.
I'm 62, single again with two adult children and three grandchildren. Damn, time flies....
-
I'm a structural steel shop detailer. Basically I draw the steel framing for construction projects using autocad and submit drawings to the shop floor for fabrication and to the riggers for installation.
-
Up until a year ago I still used Amigas for a few graphics projects for the U.S. government. Then we moved. Now no space to set set them up. The Video Flyer at home needs a be-build.
I just recently leveraged my Toaster serial number to get in on Lightwave Core development. Waiting for more ram before installing on my iMac. (BTW, the new LW, when done will run on Linux.)
I'm almost retirement age. Am retired from the Missouri National Guard. Have two adult kids who frustrate the wife by not making us grandparents.
For fun I write heroic fiction under my Erwin K. Roberts pen-name. "Jim Anthony Super-Detective" vol. 1 is just out. (Think Doc Savage with a love life.) It is currently available at:

Should be on Amazon shortly.

Or he could be a developer who blames the server admin(s) for delays or breaks in his projects :-P
"I specifically need Framework 4.5.55.112318, but the admin only has 4.5.55.112310 installed!"

Yup, that's why I said "server admin". I used to work for a Web Hosting company and I remember when people complained about having to use Linux and wanted Windows servers. Then, they'd break something and blame *US*. We'd go in there and it would be some really poor code that was broken or something that didn't actually install.

This thread is so long, and I'm so lazy that I do not know if I answered already (pretty sure I have not.)
For 10 years BMFA (Before My First Amiga,) I worked and played with all sorts of computer systems, having grown up during the home computer revolution (and bust.) TI-99/4A; Commodore VIC-20, 64, and 128; Atari 800XL; Apple ][+ and //e; early Macs. I had my hands on every computer and book on computers I could.
First Amiga was an A500 I bought in 1993 from a guy who had just graduated doing some kind of molecular stuff for which he used this 500. I originally just wanted it for SoTB, but sadly this kit did not include it. I slowly migrated away from the C128 being my primary rig to the A500, pretty much doing everything I did on my C128 except for, sadly, programming, though my ex bought me Cubic for Christmas a couple years back. Over the years I have built up a meager collection of running and usable Amiga machines, which now include A500+/030/32MB, A1200/060/192MB, A2000/060/128MB, and A4000/060/128MB.
What do I do? I am a technology consultant for small and very-small businesses. I do everything from the ground up, including network engineering, server support, workstation support, telephony, and the like. I link sites by point-to-point VPN using Cisco PIX (and starting now with ASAs,) support mobile devices and interconnectivity, assess infrastructure security, help coordinate disaster plans, swap and store tapes, etc. These days, anything to pay the bills, including whoring myself to McDonald's for modem installations. I specialized in providing services to home building, real estate, architectural, and engineering firms. Whoops! :-)
In my peak, my largest customer was a multi-million dollar-a-year home builder with 75 internal users, about 75 external users on mobile devices (laptops and smart phones,) and two branch offices.
I also run a hosting business consisting of several servers in a couple of co-location facilities, providing MySQL, PHP, SQL2005, .Net, ColdFusion, and a few other tidbits including SSL-based services. I have my hands in Windows 2003 and Solaris servers, and have also hired myself out for server admin work. Though I do not do on-call support anymore. I play with various Windows-to-Unix interoperability stuff to keep me sharp, a lot of my own design using anything from Rexx to command/shell scripting. (No real coding here.)
Last, but not least, I am a Gold Authorized Reseller for AVG.
What is the most fun for me is that several of my colleagues call upon me for help and insight on really whacked out issues. Including, at times, legacy formatted media and data recovery.
At this point I have started back to university as a student in the School of Criminology as a Computer Criminology major, which is a new NSA-sponsored curriculum. In May I find out if I have been awarded a Department of Defense C-SAIT scholarship which will have the long-term effect of catapulting me to working in the ranks of the NSA, DSS, DSA, or DISA. And, yes, I will be taking my Amiga with me... I just will not be able to post pics of it in my office

Hi,
I am married to a wonderful wife, have 2 teen age sons who need a boot up their askum and live quite a boring life. My job involves computes with the gov't, which I can't really say anything about, except that it is an over easy job, run by supervisors who are idiots and know nothing about how the system works or what you do but try to tell you how to do your job, our newest adventure is they hired a bunch of idiots to repair the systems and told us to leave them alone, so when we have a problem we call up the idiots they come over and look at it and ask us what they should do. So we have to teach them the stuff that we aren't allowed to do anymore. Then we get yelled at when stuff don't work.
I started with Amiga 2 weeks after the 1000 came out and have been with them ever since, I do own windows machines but only to play games on, wouldn't trust them for anything else. I use the Amiga since I don't have it hooked up to the internet for all my important stuff since my trusty A4000 hasn't crashed since 1992. It also seems to get stuff done faster than windows boots up. Anyhow glad to see there is a lot of IT iots on the Amiga org forum. Just think if they didn't make windows, you wouldn't have a job. It takes approximately 3 ITiots to keep one windows computer going. Think of all the jobs micro shaft has created. Anyhow I have degrees in Cisco, C++, Windows server and automatic data processing security, and Admistration programming management services, but am doing the job of a button pusher on a computer that repairs military electronic boxes, quite boring.

He He, I starte the thread so I'm gunna update myself. I am now a LT. in the United States Army, branching Field Artillery. Once I get back from army school and have established my career as a Lazer Tag Guru, I'll start writing my #1 best sellers that will unify the world and leave all my army skills good for only playing "tank"

I´m Brasilian, married, living in Sao Paulo, Brasil. I have 2 four years old daughters (twins). :-)
Currently I´m working for a automotive company doing firmware for vehicle tracking devices.(Sometimes I do some hardware stuff also...). I´ve always worked in the automotive industry, with EFI systems, anti theft and body electronics.
I´ve been using my Amiga just for fun lately...

Me too DiskDoctor and I already live here.
I'm a 45yo Technology Architecture Manager (That's IT Infrastructure Architecture) for a large Insurance company in Melbourne, Australia. Previous worklife history comes from Mainframe to Wang VS to Unix(HP-UX and Solaris) and NT-Windows200x. System Admin from '94 to 2002.
I've used Amiga since 1987 (Housemate's A500)and owned one since 1989 moving to an A2000 from a C128. My first PC was a ZX81.
I have a wife and 3 girls who love playing "Bubble and Squeek"
I've added to my Amiga collection (as below) and obviously prefer the classics because they are. No use trying to teach an old dog how to be a race horse.
Great to hear all your stories.
:-D

I have been working for AT&T for the last 9 years installing digital / data circuits. Also involved with Boy Scouts my son is First Class working on Eagle. I also dabble in HAM radio.

Some great posts here, guys. I'm kind of a new guy on Amiga.org, so I'll fill you guys in:
I currently work as a video game programmer at a software company just outside Chicago (USA). It's not as fun as it sounds--long hours, hectic schedules, etc--but I do enjoy my job. I've developed titles for the Wii, X360, and PS2. Most of which you've probably never played or didn't like. :-P
As for Amigas, I worked all summer in 1989 (freshman in high school) and saved up so I could by an A500. It was great fun to be able to show all my friends what it could do. Since then I owned an A3000 which I sold when Commodore went belly up (much to my regret later). After a long hiatus and a longing for the 'good ole days', I bought an A2500 off (flea)bay. I had always wanted an A2000, so I've bought it, and it's since become a bit of an obsession.
Other than that, I'm a divorced father with 1 kid (who lives with ME (and calls me a cheapskate) :-) ) who spends too much time thinking about the old times.
Cheers!

Ex Navy, 2 kids, divorced and was once homeless (sorted now). I'm a writer, I was an Administrator for ZetaNews whilst that was running and have performed similar roles on other sites. I am currently retooling with a view to becoming a teacher. In my spare time I write fantasy/sci fi stuff(note to those couple of folks who were interested in my work when I announced it waaay back when - I've picked up Legacy and am slowly but surely releasing more chapters - sorry for the delays).
First got into the amiga in 1992, an A500, have owned an A3000, 1200 and a CD32 although currently I don't own any. Currently I use an eeepc with a 3G wireless broadband connection.

I'm in Multimedia Entertainment here (making me a Multimedia Entertainer and|or Creative Artist by name). It encompasses everything I like doing, which ranges from writing (novels, novellas, epic poetry, screenplays, short poetry, short stories, non-fiction, and so on) to art (oil painting, digital art...), philosophy, astrology, metaphysics, and music (I compose and record musing using MIDI, SoundFonts, etc.)
I live in the panhandle of Florida. Last fall I finished my first full-length theatrical screenplay, a Sci-Fi|Horror excursion called Natural Selection, running about 2hrs 9mins. More recently, I completed a Political-Horror (or Dystopian Nightmare) novel in the vein of George Orwell's 1984, weighing in at about 670pages. About to go into 2nd draft mode for that, once another week of plotting is done on my next book (a Sci|Fantasy, or Cosmic Horror novel). I do the art for my own book covers, using Photo-Paint, which I absolutely love. I'm also working on two new screenplays (both Horror, begun last fall).
When not doing that, I paint oil paintings, work a bit on my OS project, work on my music project (an original orchestral score related to one of my novels and screenplays), or watch movies. I love movies. :-D
I post some art in my myspace profile (http://myspace.com/foadiyops), so anyone who likes art can see some there.
