Title: Problem with PCMCIA CF reader
Post by: dougal on March 30, 2009, 11:13:48 PM
Hi ,

I have a problem with my COMPACT FLASH reader and memory card .

Basicly i have copied the drivers and the FAT95 ok .
The CF0: is mounted too , BUT no drive icon shows up .

I have tried to format but it says that no disk is inserted
I have tried to access CF0: from shell but same , no disk is inserted .

When i tried prepcard it sees that i have a card inserted and it even says the make of my CF card , but doesnt say the size . I have tried 2 CF cards and both give same result .

Both cards are FAT formatted using Windows XP

What could be wrong ?

My setup is :

Commodore A1200 with Blizzard 030 accelerator
2mb Chip + 16mb Fast ram
2Gb Internal IDE HDD
Kickstart 3.0 + OS 3.9 installed
Using Blizkick to make Amiga 3.1 so it runs 3.9
PCMCIA CF reader = PCMCIA Adapter Compact Flash Type II
CF card = Kingston 2GB or Sandisk 1GB

It could be as simple as the CF cards are not compatable

I don't know about Kingston cards but the Sandisk should work as long as it's not a pirate or one of the newer ones with a flower on it.

Nope no flower on the sandisk . It is blue with a red top part saying Sandisk . bottom part says 1.0 GB CompactFlash

I am having the exact same problem.  I have tried it with and without my trapdoor card and I have tried a multitude of cards with it (both CF and SD) and I cant get it working :-(

Are you guys using CardPatch & Fat95 on your system?

Aminet Linky to Cardpatch program (http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/CardPatch)

Aminet Linky to Fat95<>Amiga file system (http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95)

For the record, I could NEVER get any of my A1200's to format a CF Card using the PCMCIA program in OS3.0-3.9. Like you've experienced, it would recognise that there was indeed a card there, but wouldn't properly deal with it otherwise. Not a big deal really, just another annoyance when a feature exists, but doesn't work.

Its not that i can't format (Which i can't)

Its that i dont even get the CF0: icon or anything

In shell when i type CF0: i get "NO DISK"

I have installed FAT95 , card patch , CFO , and compactflash.device .

Prepcard sees the card and even says KINGSTON etc.. But thats it . Format finds CF0: and CC0: but with capacity on CF0 as 0 and on CC0: as 20K . Both cant be formatted .

I have tried two different cards (SANDISK & Kingston)

But nothing works .

I have tried booting from the disk that came with the card ,i have tried disabling my Blizzard card , turning on Amiga with adapter insterted and without , etc... etc..

Someone please help

Thats pretty much what I have tried too!  i.e. just about everything.  And yes, I have everything installed and get the "no disk" when I access CF0:  And, Prepcard sees a card - just nothing... :(

So weird and annoying .

While in prepcard if i remove the card it goes , when i plug in it sees it right away .

But workbench does not give me the CF0: icon and format says no disk . Shell says no disk either .

So strange

Have you formatted the CF on the PC with Fat32?

You could try to format it with FAT instead.

Some cards refuse to work with FAT95 when they are formatted with FAT32.
