Dear Amigans:
I have an amiga 1200 with also 'ProWrite' and
'professional page'. No amiga printer. My pc has a fully working printer (i think is laser maybe ?) which is a
hewlet packard deskjet 712c. Is it possible to make this printer work with my amiga? Can you help me pls ?

712 is an inkjet printer, i assume its a parallel connection? if so i dont see why you cant use it on amiga,
depends on driver, cant see one on aminet,
Turboprint may support it?
Turboprint (http://www.zedonet.de/eshop-tpamiga.html#)

Sometimes even if there is no driver that model, a driver a similar model may work just as well. Turboprint works really well with a lot of parallel port printers.

If your printer will accept postscript you can set that from within workbench preferences and output directly to the printer.

hi:
thanks for the replies. The printer does have a parallel port connection. I will try using it on my amiga 1200. Thanks!!!

Good thing you are trying to print from an A1200 and not an A1000 :-)

@save2600
hehe I guess amigas 1000 is not good for this !!!

I tried getting a 712c working years ago on an A1200, and wasn't able. I didn't spend forever troubleshooting, but IIRC, the 712c required something "special" that the amiga drivers didn't support. Most other printers I tried worked fine.

thanks for the tip. I am just gonna get an old printer and see if I can make it work with my a1200.

Did you try it with TurboPrint??

Old printers w/ parallel ports surely WILL work. Especially for plain text and not too fancy of formatting. If you want greater compatibility and flexibility, see the recurring theme from my other posts. All "solutions" Legacy wise are obsolete, but you can tweak the settings in TurboPrint to produce some very manageable results.
They're the best I've found/used yet. Anyone know of a better software solution?

The 712c is a Windows Host based printer (PPA I think they are called). They don't use PCL or Postscript per se. I had a 722c once which is similar and got it working using pnm2ppa which uses Ghostscript, but I did it over a network from the Amiga through a Windows host. Not sure if pnm2ppa is available with the Amiga Ghostscript package.

I wonder how many people have plugged their printer into the serial port by mistake... I`m sure everyone`s done it at some stage heh

No, just came to the conclusion it wouldn't work without a bunch of hassle. I'm no printer guru though. :)

Thanks for explaining that. I recall pulling my hair out a little, as 3.9 does have a 712c driver, which of course does nothing. (Thought I had a bum port until I tried other printers.) Pretty cool you were able to figure out a way to get it working. :)
